Women's Golf Finishes Individual Play At Ron Moore Tournament
October 13, 2014 | Women's Golf
DENVER – The University of Colorado women's golf team completed the final round of the Ron Moore Tournament at Highlands Ranch Golf Club on Sunday afternoon, with junior Allie Zech posting the best score for the Buffaloes to finish tied for 39th place.
Junior Megan Haase, redshirt freshman Tori Glenn and Zech represented the Buffaloes at the event hosted by the University of Denver, each playing as individuals in the field of 75.
“The course played pretty tough today,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “There were very difficult hole locations and throw the cold and wind on top of it, made for a tough day. Overall, it was good experience for the girls to get another tournament under their belt. It's nice to be able play some individuals in a tournament.”
Zech posted an 80-76-78–234 or 18-over par. The Indian Wells, Calif. native started with a bogey on her first hole then followed it up with a birdie. She was even through the next three and then shot a seven-over during the next 12 holes. Zech finished strong with her second birdie of the day and sixth of the tournament. Zech's 39th place finish was her best of the year, 17 spots better than when she placed tied for 56th in Golfweek Conference Challenge earlier this month.
Haase had her best round on Sunday, recording a five-over par 77 and shot a 26-over par for the tournament. She pared the first six holes and then went three-over with a bogey and double-bogey. She settled to go one-under during her next six, but had a hard time finishing with three bogeys on her final four holes. Haase finished in 63rd.
Glenn (82-78-83–243) finished one spot behind teammate Haase in 64th, carding a 27-over par. She was 11-over in the final round with four bogeys, one double-bogey and one birdie.
“Tori is really working to try and make some improvements with her game and swing,” said Kelly. “I know she wasn't happy with her scores, but she is working hard and making progress.”
Former Big 12 Conference opponent Kansas State won the tournament by three strokes over the Kansas Jayhawks with an 877 or 13-over par team score. The Wildcats' Olivia Eliasson finished in first among the individuals at three-under par.
The Buffaloes return to the course on Monday, Nov. 3 for the Pac-12 Preview in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
