KONA, Hawaii – The University of Colorado women's golf team is in 10th place after two rounds at the Pac-12 Preview Monday, held at the Nanea Golf Club and hosted by the University of Hawaii.
The 12 team-field includes five schools that rank in the top 15 of the latest Golfstat poll (Oct. 29). The 27th ranked Buffaloes shot a 307 in both rounds to conclude the first 36 holes at 30-over par, 614.
“It was a bad day for the Buffs,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “We played par 5s very poorly. Everyone is pretty frustrated, but determined to improve.”
The No. 6 Washington Huskies are in first place at 9-under par and have an eight stroke lead over UCLA who sits in second, posting a 1-under par. The Huskies and No. 7 Bruins are the only two teams to finish the day under-par. The third ranked Stanford Cardinal is 10-over par in third place. No. 13 Arizona shot a 595 or 11-over par and is in fourth. Washington State is 12-over to round out the top five.
Freshman Brittany Fan leads the Buffs after shooting a 4-over par 150. Fan had two bogeys in her first four holes, but she settled down and recorded three birdies on the back nine to finish her first round at even-par 73. Her second time through, she pared her first hole and then had back-to-back bogeys to go 2-over. The Pearl City, Hawaii native recorded two more bogeys before paring the last six to end the day. Fan is tied for 22nd and is the only Buffalo hold a spot in the top 25.
Junior Alexis Keating is close behind, tied for 30th, carding a 77-76—153 or 7-over par. Keating started both rounds with two straight birdies. She was 4-over after the first 18 holes. The Elma, Wash. native made five birdies in the second round as she shaved one stroke off her score. Keating was tied for in the field with seven total birdies.
Sophomore Esther Lee looked more comfortable in the second round, climbing 10 spots and improving her score by four strokes. Lee shot 8-over par (79-75—154). Her day started with six bogeys and one birdie through 18 holes. She opened the second round with four straight pars and then went birdie-bogey-birdie over the next three. She was 1-under making the turn and carded a 3-over on the back nine. Lee is tied for 38th overall.
Sophomore Natalie Vivaldi is tied for 45th after posting a 157 or 11-over par. Vivaldi posted nearly identical rounds. She was 5-over in the first round with four bogeys, one double-bogey and one birdie. Her second time out, she carded a 6-over par, 79.
