Iowa State increases its overall lead in the series to 78-70 as the teams met for the first time since the two were both members of the Big 12 Conference. The Cyclones stop a 3-game Colorado win streak in the series but the Buffs have still won 3-of-5 and 5-of-9.

Colorado drops to 2-5 against the Big 12 since joining the Pac-12 Conference for the 2011-12 season.

Colorado drops to 78-35 all-time in season openers. The Buffaloes are 4-2 under Boyle – both against ranked opponents. Colorado falls to 31-5 in season openers since the 1980-81 season.

The Buffaloes have lost nine straight against ranked opponents, but are a respectable 11-20 in five-plus years under Boyle.

After beginning 1-of-9 from the 3-point line, Colorado made four straight 3-pointers and 8 of its final 14 (.571). The Buffaloes were 4-of-8 from downtown in the second half and ended up at 39.1 percent for the game (9-of-23)

Colorado's bench outscored Iowa State 22-4. Iowa State had a big advantage in the paint outscoring the Buffaloes 52-24

Wesley Gordon scored Colorado's first points of the year, on a layup, 2:42 into the game (Josh Fortune with his first career assist in a Buffs uniform).

Josh  Fortune made is Colorado debut hitting 3-of-8 from the field with a 3-pointer and grabbed four rebounds.

George King (14 points, 6 rebounds, 4-of-8 3-pointers) – Career highs in points, 3-pointers made & attempted and also overall field goals made and attempted (4-of-9).

Josh Scott (11 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks) – Recorded his 24th career double-double ranking 11th all-time at Colorado. His next double-double will move him into the top 10, as David Harrison (2001-04) sits in that spot with 25. His three blocks gave him 113 for his career moving him into seventh place past Marcus King-Stockton (2004-08). Scott is only one block behind Donnie Boyce (1991-95) for sixth.

Scott recorded his 67th double-figure scoring game, 28th double-figure rebound game and 28th with at two or more blocks. He had three or more blocks in nine games as a junior.

Dominique Collier (13 points, 5-of-9 FG, 3-5 3FG) – Hit Colorado's first 3-pointer of the year (which gave the Buffs an early 5-0 lead) and proceeded to register a career-best in both 3-pointers made and overall field goals made.
