Colorado-USC Game Quotes
February 08, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Coach Linda Lappe
On Not Being Able to Have a Strong Comeback
"I thought we did some really nice things in the first half; defensively we were pretty solid. But like it has been all season long, in the second half we have trouble getting stops and defending. When you're having trouble scoring like we did today, in both halves, your defense is what keeps you in the game. We had to be willing to win that game 51-49. We had to too many turnovers, which resulted in transition points and we weren't nearly as solid, in the second half, in our half court defense."
On USC's Defense
"USC was way more comfortable in the second half, which will help a team knock down shots. You have to give USC credit because they kept us uncomfortable the entire game. They were flying at us, trying to make plays on the basketball, and really kept us off of our rhythm on offense."
On What USC Did To Make CU Uncomfortable
"We were uncomfortable the whole game.  We scored more the second half and got to the line a lot better but we had about the same number of turnovers in both halves. So, really it was our defense that was the difference. Obviously if we are giving up points we want to be able to score a little bit more, but they are long and cover ground really easy. I thought we missed a lot of easy shots down low early and that allowed them to keep coming out on our guards with pressure. There are definitely a lot of things to take away from this game; just right now it's about consistency and being able to put two halves together. Our bench came off and did some nice things to allow us to give our starters some rest, so fatigue wasn't necessarily a factor, we just have to put two halves together."
On Four Homes In a Row
"Really the second half of the schedule set us up with an opportunity to be successful but that doesn't really matter. It's really is about 'how are we playing'? How are we coming to practice? We did not have a very strong week of practice, which when you do that and you are on the road will result in two losses. So we have to understand how important practice is along with everyone bringing their best and all every single day and be able to go out there and compete as one team."

On The Physicality Of The Game
"I love these games. We get to show how aggressive we can be. It's basically a Hercules battle; who is the strongest? Who wants it more? Who is going to hit harder? It's one of the most fun parts of the game; being able to just prove you are stronger then anyone else out on the court. So when referees are not calling down low, I look at it as a challenge to see who's the strongest and try to force the other team to back down first."
On Importance of Playing the Next Four Games at Home
"I definitely love playing games at home and I think it is going to be a huge factor for us. Buff Nation is always the best fan base we can have. I know we go to places like California and Arizona where we have family cheering for us but it still doesn't compare to having your peers cheer you on. The people that know you by name and know where you are from, along with our dorky individual stories, makes play at home is a lot of fun. Win or lose, we know at home we will have our fan base to hold us up which is a great feeling."
On Being At Home
"I think that will be real helpful for us and our game in general. When we have our home games we play a lot harder for our fans that are always there. I think having two weeks of home practices will help us even prepare to go down to Arizona with having those two weeks in our back pockets. It will help us a lot."
