Soccer Opens Spring Season A Perfect 3-0
March 10, 2015 | Soccer
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's soccer team is undefeated after its first three matches of the spring season.
In the Buffaloes' spring opener on Friday, Feb. 20, CU hosted Colorado School of Mines and defeated the Orediggers 1-0 at the Indoor Bubble. The match remained scoreless until soon-to-be senior Olivia Pappalardo scored to put the Buffs in front. Her unassisted game-winner came with only 10 minutes left to play.
Colorado returned to the pitch on Saturday, March 7 for a doubleheader. The Buffs first traveled to Denver to take on the in-state rival Pioneers where they earned the 2-0 shutout. Brittney Stark, who will begin her sophomore campaign in 2015, led the Buffs offensively with one goal and three shots. She tallied the match's first score in the 23rd minute off a double-assist from forwards Brie Hooks and Emily Paxton. After halftime, Paxton recorded her second assist in the match when she connected with forward Madi Krauser in the 52nd minute. Krauser drilled home her first goal of the spring season, giving CU a two-goal advantage. The Buffs' defense also had a strong showing, allowing DU to take only three shots and one on goal.
The Buffs then returned to Boulder to complete the day-night doubleheader against CU head coach Danny Sanchez's former team, the Wyoming Cowgirls. Colorado was again victorious, claiming a 2-1 win. Stark picked up right where she left off in the day's earlier match versus DU, scoring her second goal of the spring just five minutes into the contest with an assist by forward Ashley Love. With Colorado leading 1-0, the Cowgirls responded with a goal in the 19th minute to tie it at 1-1. The match would remain tied until the 59th minute when Hooks, CU's leading scorer last season notched the game-winner, assisted by Krauser.
Colorado is unbeaten in 11 straight spring matches dating back to 2014 when the Buffs posted a 6-0-2 record. CU has five matches remaining on its spring schedule and its next contest is slated for Saturday, April 4 in the Regis University Tournament. The Buffs will face Northern Colorado at 12:40 p.m. and then play two split squad matches against Colorado Mesa and Western State, both beginning at 3:50 p.m.
