
Buffs Climb Into Sixth At LSU Tiger Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Colorado women's golf team jumped five places into a tie for sixth place here Saturday in the second round of the LSU Tiger Golf Club Classic. It was the biggest move by any of the 16-teams competing in the tournament.
No. 6 LSU remains in the lead. The Tigers recorded a 280 as a team in the second round and is 1-over par through 36 holes. They hold a comfortable 13-stroke lead over second place Tulane, who carded a 288 on Saturday. Mississippi State is one stroke behind Tulane in third place. TCU dropped two places to fourth with a 10-over par 298 and Notre Dame rounds out the top five, climbing two spots and is six strokes back of the Horned Frogs at 28-over par.
The Buffaloes shot 291 as a team, which was 25 strokes better than round one and is 31-over par (316-291—607) going into the final round. They are tied with North Carolina, who moved up two places from Friday.
“The team made very great improvement today,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “They played much better and made a good comeback. I think they got a good feel for the course. The conditions were a little better today, too. Now we just have to finish strong tomorrow."
Sophomore Esther Lee shot a 1-under par 71, five strokes better than her first round, which helped the Los Alamitos, Calif. native move up six spots on the leaderboard and is tied for 12th place overall. She opened the second round on No. 10 where she was 2-over after nine holes, then turned in an impressive finish on the front side, shooting a 3-under par. Lee birdied four of her final eight holes of the round. She is 3-over par (76-71—147) going into Sunday's final round.
Freshman Brittany Fan made the biggest jump of the entire 89 player field on Saturday afternoon. She zoomed 43 places up the leaderboard and went from a tie for 61st to being tied for 18th overall. She shot a stellar 2-under par 70, an 11 stroke improvement from round one and is 7-over par for the tournament. She was even par after 12 holes and then made a pair of birdies to go 2-under par. She dropped back to even par with two straight bogeys, but finished strong with back-to-back birdies on her last two holes.
Junior Alexis Keating recorded an even-par 72 and is tied for 24th with an 80-72—152 through 36 holes. She also had a significant jump, 24 spots from Friday. She started on the back nine and was 2-over par then made three birdies in a row on the front nine to get to 1-under. Keating struggled on the par-4, No. 4 with a bogey, but rebounded nicely with five straight pars to end the day.
Junior Jamie Oleksiew carded a 6-over par second round and is 13-over par (79-78—157) heading into the final round. She began her day on No. 10 and went 5-over par through nine holes. Oleksiew settled down on the front, shooting a 1-over par and is tied for 50th place overall.
Sophomore Natalie Vivaldi is tied for 60th place with an 81-78—159 after two rounds. On Saturday, she was three strokes better than Friday, shooting a 6-over par 78. Through 10 holes, Vivaldi was 1-over par, but ran into some trouble over the final eight where she was 5-over par. She had three bogeys, one double-bogey and four pars.
Redshirt freshman Tori Glenn, playing as an individual, recorded a 16-over par round for the second straight day. Glenn was 11-over par on the back nine, and then tallied two birdies on the front, including one on her final hole to finish the round with an 88. She is in 87th place.
LSU's Madelene Sagstrom is leading the tournament at 4-under par. She posted a 5-under par 67 in the second round and moved from a tie for fourth to sole possession of first place. Her teammate, Elise Bradley is in second with a 2-under 142 and North Carolina's Leslie Cloots is one stroke back in third place with at 1-under par. Mississippi State's Chieh Jessica Peng along with Tulane duo Gemma Dryburgh and Emily Penttila are in a three-way tie for fourth place at even par.
The final round gets underway on Sunday with a shotgun start beginning at 6:30 a.m. MDT.
