Soccer Remains Undefeated In Spring Play
April 14, 2015 | Soccer
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's soccer team has tallied five more wins, improving to a perfect 8-0 this spring.
Not only have the Buffaloes looked sharp on offense, but also on defense as they have only allowed one goal over their eight matches.
Colorado began the second half of its spring schedule on Saturday, April 4, competing in the Regis University Tournament held in Denver. CU played a morning match against Northern Colorado and then followed with two split-squad contests, facing Division II opponents, Colorado Mesa and Western State. The Buffs opened with a 2-0 victory over the UNC Bears. The match remained scoreless until the second minute of the second half when soon-to-be senior Olivia Pappalardo connected with forward Ashley Love to give CU a 1-0 advantage on Love's first goal this spring. CU's 2014 leading goal-scorer, Brie Hooks added one more goal later in the half off an assist by forward Madi Krauser. In the two afternoon matches, CU topped both Western State and Colorado Mesa by the same 1-0 final score. Forward Brittney Stark scored the game-winner against Western State, assisted by Heather Ward and Krauser found Hooks again, who tallied CU's goal versus Colorado Mesa.
The Buffs played its last double-header of the spring on Sunday, April 12, hosting the Air Force Falcons in the afternoon at Prentup Field and welcomed Northern Colorado to Boulder for an evening match under the lights at Folsom Field. Stark tallied each of CU's goals on Sunday. She found the back of the net early on against the Falcons. Midfielder Morgan Stanton had the assist that helped Stark put the ball past Air Force's goalkeeper in the eighth minute. The Buffs played solid defense the rest of the way, shutting out Air Force to pick up the 1-0 victory. Colorado closed out the weekend with another 1-0 win, this time against the Bears, to complete the spring season sweep. Similar to their first meeting in the Regis Tournament, the match was tied at zero until the second half when Stark recorded her fourth goal of the spring and Krauser earned her team-leading fourth assist. Dating back to last spring, CU has won three straight against the Bears, outscoring UNC 6-0 over that stretch.
The Buffs conclude their spring season on Saturday, April 18 against former Big 12 foe Nebraska at Prentup Field. Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. MT as CU will look to finish with an undefeated record for a second consecutive spring.
