Soccer Set To Host Cincinnati, Iowa State

QUICKLY: The University of Colorado women's soccer team returns to the pitch this weekend, continuing its non-conference portion of the schedule. The Buffs look to earn its second straight win when they welcome Cincinnati to Prentup Field on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. MDT and then host former Big 12 foe Iowa State on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. MDT. This weekend's matches are the final two of a three-game homestand for the Buffs.

COLORADO VS. CINCINNATI: The Buffs lead the all-time series, 1-0 as they earned the victory in their only meeting with the Bearcats three seasons ago. CU defeated Cincinnati 2-1 in a neutral site match played in Denver.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS: Cincinnati is 2-1-1 on the young season and unbeaten in its last three matches after dropping its season opener. A trio of Bearcats each have scored one goal and Julie Gavorski has tallied the team's only assist. Two goalkeepers have seen playing time in 2015 and have combined to only allow two goals while tallying three shutouts.

COLORADO VS. IOWA STATE: The Buffaloes are a stellar 12-2-1 all-time against the Cyclones, including a perfect 9-0 at home. CU is unbeaten in its last nine matches versus ISU, holding an 8-0-1 record. Sunday will mark the first meeting between both schools since 2010, Colorado's final year in the Big 12 Conference.

SCOUTING THE CYCLONES: Iowa State is 3-1 overall and will play a Friday match at Colorado College before traveling to Boulder. The Cyclones are led offensively by Lauren Roeling and Haley Albert- both have two goals each. Iowa State is coming off its first win against a top 10 opponent in school history, having defeated 10th-ranked Pepperdine last weekend. The Cyclones have shutout each opponent in all three of their wins.

LAST TIME OUT: Colorado went 1-1 in week two of the regular season. The Buffaloes dropped their first match of 2015, 2-0 at then 11th-ranked Brigham Young last Friday, in front of a record-setting 5,589 fans in the Cougars' home opener. Colorado bounced back with an impressive win on Sunday, defeating New Mexico 4-0 at home to earn its second shutout of the season. Four different Buffaloes scored- Danica Evans, Stephanie Zuniga, Joss Orejel and Brittney Stark. Goalkeepers Kate Scheele and Scout Watson split playing time, each minding the net for a half and combined for the clean sheet.

AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Freshmen Amy Alexander, Erin Greening, Sarah Kinzner, Brooklyn Varnadore, Alex Vidger and Stephanie Zuniga along with Portland transfer Danica Evans have each saw playing time over the first two weeks of the season. The group of newcomers have contributed in a big way, combining for three goals, three assists, 27 shots with 15 on goal and two game-winners.

HEAD COACH DANNY SANCHEZ: Fourth year head coach Danny Sanchez has been outstanding at the helm of CU. Under his leadership, Sanchez has guided the Buffaloes to a combined 36-22-7 record in three seasons. He has helped the black and gold post back-to-back 14 wins seasons (2013 and '14) along with two straight berths in the NCAA Tournament, advancing as far as the Sweet 16 in 2013 and the Round of 32 last season. In 2014, Sanchez led the Buffs a program-best third place finish in the Pac-12 Conference and it also marked the first time CU posted a winning Pac-12 record since it joined the conference in 2011. In his 20 year coaching career, Sanchez has accumulated a 304-82-31 record.

JUNIOR BRIE HOOKS: Brie Hooks is off to another strong start for the Buffs. She leads the team with two goals and is tied for second on the squad with two assists. She also is the Pac-12 leader with 18 shots on the young season and ranks third in points with six total, averaging 1.50 per contest.

LEADING THE WAY: The Buffs rank first in the Pac-12 Conference in shots (69) and assists (10) while also holding a place in the top five in several other categories, including goals (8), points (26) and assists per game (2.50).

PAC-12 NETWORKS: In its fourth year, the Pac-12 Networks will air 69 women's soccer games, including nine of the Buffs' match-ups. Eight of CU's nine televised contests on the networks are conference matches. The Buffs' match against Northwestern is also part of the Pac-12 Networks line-up.

GAME PROMOTIONS: Local youth soccer clubs are invited to bring their teams out to Friday's match. All clubs in attendance will be given the opportunity to promote their team. On Sunday, fans are encouraged to Pedal to Prentup as the first 100 bikers to arrive at the field will receive a free CU soccer t-shirt.

2006: 6-1-1 ... tied No. 22 Vanderbilt to open the season ... 3-0-1 start helped them to a No. 21 ranking ... Fell to No. 22 BYU in their fourth game, but took down No. 14 Utah 2-1 just one game later
2008: 7-1-1 ... Buffs tied No. 20 Florida in first game on their way to an eight game win streak and nine game unbeaten streak
2012: 6-1-2 ... CU broke records by shutting out its first three opponents and remaining undefeated through first five games to start the season
2013: 10-2 ... set a program record with 10 non-conference wins (eight regular season and two postseason) ... their only two losses coming at No. 16 Denver and No. 1 Florida State in the Sweet 16
2014: 8-3 ... eight non-conference victories are second most all-time in school history ... similar to the 2013 campaign the Buffs' only had one regular season loss and its other came in the second round of the NCAA Tournament
