January 21, 2016 | Tennis
BOULDER - Colorado's tennis team is set to embark on its first road trip of the season, playing a pair of matches in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend. The Buffaloes will take on New Mexico at 6 p.m. on Friday and UTEP on Sunday at 11 a.m.
CU is coming off a season-opening win over Air Force that saw the Buffs sweep singles to win 6-1. Nuria Ormeño Ruiz enters the weekend as the top performer for the team, posting an 11-2 singles mark and 6-4 doubles mark, playing at No. 1 for the Buffs in both. Annabelle Andrinopoulos impressed with her first career dual singles win at No. 2 against Air Force. No. 3 singles player Jeannez Daniel will have an opportunity to face her former team this weekend as she transferred from UTEP over the summer.
New Mexico is ranked No. 64 in the latest ITA top-75 poll, but has yet to play a dual match this spring. The Lobos feature four regionally-ranked players, including Andrea LeBlanc, who is ranked No. 85 nationally.
UTEP is 2-0 this season after 4-0 victories over Iowa State and Northern Iowa last weekend.
