Buffs Set To Host Oregon State and No. 23 Oregon

BOULDER — The Colorado volleyball team heads home to the Coors Events Center this weekend to wrap-up the first half of the Pac-12 Conference schedule. CU will host Oregon State on Friday, October 21, at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, October 22, the Buffs will take on No. 23 Oregon at 7 p.m.
 
Friday's match against OSU will be televised live on Pac-12 Mountain and Pac-12 Oregon, while Saturday's tilt against UO will be streamed online on Pac-12 Plus (a link is located on the CU volleyball schedule).
 
ABOUT THE BUFFS: The Buffs have recorded an 11-7 overall record this season. They are also 3-5 in the Pac-12, which is ninth in the league standings, but isn't far from second as seven teams are tied with a 5-3 record. CU ranks 25th in blocks per set nationally (2.66), which is also fourth in the Pac-12.
 
Individually, the Buffs are led by Alexa Smith, who is averaging 3.15 kills per set and 0.24 service aces per set. At the net, sophomore Naghede Abu is averaging the 29th best total in the country, sixth in the Pac-12, at 1.34 blocks per set.
 
Junior Gabby Simpson and senior Kiara McKibben have been running a very successful 6-2 offense, as seen in CU's hitting efficiency (.243, sixth in the Pac-12). Simpson is averaging 5.58 assists per set, but also adds 2.58 kills per set, the second best total on the team, as well. McKibben is recording 6.03 assists per set. Senior Cierra Simpson leads the Buffs with 3.48 digs per set.
 
ABOUT OREGON STATE: Oregon State is 8-11 overall, 1-7 in the Pac-12 entering the weekend, after dropping its last four straight matches. As a team, the Beavers are averaging 12.92 kills per set while hitting .205. They are posting 2.26 blocks per set and are recording 15.23 digs per set.  
 
Mary-Kate Marschall is OSU's leading offensive weapon, averaging 4.11 kills per set, which is 39th in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12. Teammate Lanesha Reagan ranks seventh in the conference with 3.56 kills per set. McKenna Hollingsworth ranks fourth in the league with 9.42 assists per set and Kayla Ellis is fifth in the Pac-12 in digs per set with 4.18.
 
The Buffs lead the all-time series against OSU at 6-3. The two teams did not play each other until CU joined the Pac-12. OSU won the first three meetings, but it has been all Buffs since with CU taking the last six contests.  
 
ABOUT OREGON: The Ducks are ranked 23rd in the latest AVCA Poll with an overall record of 12-5. Oregon is also 5-3 in Pac-12 play, which is tied for second with six other teams. UO leads the conference in assists per set (13.53), hitting percentage (.285) and kills per set (14.43). In the NCAA, the Ducks are eighth overall in assists and kills per set, and are 10th in hitting percentage.  
 
Lindsey Vander Weide leads UO with 3.05 kills per set and ranks third in the conference with 0.37 aces per set. Two of the best hitting percentages in the conference belong to Ducks with Ronika Stone (.395) and Taylor Agost (.365) coming in second and fourth, respectively. Maggie Scott and August Raskie share time setting for the Ducks. Scott is averaging 6.83 assists per set, while Raskie adds another 5.14 assists per set. Amanda Benson is the Pac-12 leader with 5.10 digs per set, which is also 23rd in the NCAA. Stone is also posting 1.25 blocks per set, which is seventh in the conference, 47th in the NCAA.
 
Oregon has a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series, which includes a series split in 2015. The Buffs upset the Ducks for the first team ever in Eugene, Ore. on Oct. 2, but Oregon responded by taking the match in Boulder a few weeks later on Oct. 31.
 
FRIDAY'S PROMOTIONS
  • Friday's match against Oregon State is "Buffs Beat Cancer." All fans are encouraged to wear pink and those wearing pink will be able to purchase general admission tickets for $3.
  • The first 250 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a free pink CU t-shirt. 
  • Following the first set, there will be an arena wide presentation allowing fans to unite as they honor friends and loved ones affected by cancer.
  • There will also be a post-match autograph session on the concourse above section 4.
 
SATURDAY'S PROMOTIONS
  • There will be a "trick-or-treat" street on the concourse. It will begin one hour before the first serve and will conclude when the match starts.
  • Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
  • The CU women's basketball team will be in attendance, throwing out t-shirts during promotions, as well as signing autographs during intermission. 
  • There will also be a post-match autograph session on the concourse above section 4.
 
 
 
CLEAR BAG POLICY
In an effort to provide a safer environment for fans, the University of Colorado will be implementing a clear bag policy at the Coors Events Center for all CU volleyball matches, men's basketball and women's basketball games this season (2016).
               
Beginning this season, fans may bring one clear bag no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches, or a one-gallon reseal-able clear plastic storage bag, into the arena. Fans will also be allowed one small clutch purse, no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.          
               
Bags that will no longer be allowed into the CEC include backpacks, large purses, oversized tote bags, camera bags and binocular cases, diaper bags, fanny packs and printed plastic bags.

Single match tickets start at $5 for general admission and are $8 for reserved seats. Tickets for kids 12 and under are free.
