Women Golfers Finish Sixth At Peg Barnard Invite

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Colorado women's golf team finished its first tournament of the spring season here Sunday in sixth place at the Peg Barnard Invitational, hosted by the Stanford Cardinal.
The Buffaloes, ranked No. 22 in the nation in the latest Golfweek poll, combined to shoot 299 or 15-over par in the final round of the 36-hole event. They posted a 26-over par, 594 overall team score for the tournament. The 12th-ranked Washington Huskies came from behind to win it, climbing three spots on the leaderboard and carded the only subpar round on Sunday (4-under par) and finished at 3-over par, 571. Three strokes back, recording a second-place finish was Stanford with a 6-over par 574 team score. California took third place with a 577 or 9-over par total and Oregon, the leader after the first day, finished in fourth place at plus-15 (583). New Mexico rounded out the top five with a 21-over par performance, five strokes ahead of the Buffaloes.
Junior Esther Lee posted the best two-day total, shooting 3-over par on Sunday and finished with a 71-74–145 scorecard. She had one birdie, 13 pars and four bogeys in the final round. Lee started out strong with five straight pars and then went bogey-birdie on Nos. 6 and 7. She made two straight pars again before making the turn. The back nine holes were a bit more challenging for Lee as she posted a 3-over par, 39. Lee finished tied for 11th overall.
Sophomore Brittany Fan and senior Alexis Keating followed suit from Saturday, both shooting the same scores for a second straight day. They each shot 4-over par through the final 18 holes and finished at 6-over par (73-75–148) for the event. Fan completed the first nine holes at plus-5 and then settled down on the back side, shooting 1-under with eight pars and a birdie. Alexis got off to a rough start with a double-bogey on her first hole to go to 2-over right out of the gate, and followed it up with five consecutive pars. She hit another rough stretch going 3-over during the next five holes to put her at 5-over through 11, however she rebounded to finish strong with six pars and one birdie. Fan and Alexis finished tied for 19th place.
Freshman Gillian Vance finished the tournament at 11-over par (78-75–153) and improved her final round by three strokes from Saturday. She shot identical 2-over pars on both the front and back nine, carding a birdie, five pars and three bogeys on each side. Vance placed tied for 39th overall.
Freshman Lauryn Keating also improved her final round score, carding a 9-over par, 80 and posted an 86-80–166 total. She shot 3-over on the front side and 6-over on the back nine holes. Lauryn tied for 66th place.
