Five Buffs Qualify For NCAA Indoor Championships

BOULDER — Five University of Colorado athletes have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, March 11-12, in Birmingham, Ala.
Seniors Pierce Murphy, Morgan Pearson and Connor Winter will represent the men's team, while sophomores Kaitlyn Benner and Erin Clark are the women's team representatives.
Murphy will compete in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. A 2015 indoor 5k First Team All-American, he ranks 11th on the 3k (7:51.51) list and is sixth in the 5k (13:40.12). Pearson, a 2015 indoor 5k Second Team All-American, has once again advanced to NCAAs in the 5k with a time of 13:48.18, which is 15th on the list.
This is Winter's first trip to nationals as he will race in the 3k. Winter's personal record (7:51.85) ranks 13th heading into nationals. Benner and Clark are also running at their first indoor nationals and both will do so in the 3k. Clark has the ninth (9:08.29) fastest time in the field, while Benner is 12th (9:09.75).
The men's 5k is scheduled for Friday, March 11, at 8:05 p.m. Both the men's and women's 3k races will take place on Saturday, March 12. The men run first at 6:10 p.m. and the women will follow at 6:25 p.m. All times listed are central.
