Buffs To Renew Old Big 12 Rivalries This Weekend

Up Next
•   The Buffs will renew their old Big 12 rivalries with Kansas and Missouri this weekend, playing at KU on Friday and MU on Sunday.
•   CU played Kansas in 2014 and lost 2-1 in double overtime, but previously had not played since its Big 12 days in 2010.
•   CU has not played Missouri both schools were in the Big 12 in 2010.
•   This is the sixth season all-time that CU has started 2-0 and the third in Danny Sanchez's fifth year (both previous times CU went on to the NCAA Tournament).
•   CU has only started a season 3-0 two times previously: 2013 (started 6-0) and 2014 (started 3-0) and both of those seasons were under Sanchez and both were NCAA Tournament seasons.
Season Opener Notes
•   CU is now 11-5-5 all-time in season-opening matches and 4-1-4 in season openers on the road.
•   CU is now unbeaten in its past 13 season openers (last loss in 2003 to Portland).
Home Opener Notes
•   CU's 2-1 win over Colorado State on Aug. 21 stretched the team's unbeaten streak in home openers to 13 matches and winning streak to eight, while improving the all-time record in home openers to 16-4-1.
•   The goal CU allowed in the first half was the first goal allowed in a home opener in 754 minutes and 19 seconds (the previous goal allowed in a home opener was in 2008 against Florida).
•   When Taylor Kornieck scored in the seventh minute against CSU, it made this the fourth consecutive season a freshman has scored in the home opener (Erin Greening 2015, Brittney Stark 2014, Brie Hooks 2013).
Kinzner's Late Score
•   Sarah Kinzner scored with three seconds left in the first half in CU's season-opening 2-0 win at Air Force for a 1-0 hafltime lead.
•   It was the latest goal ever scored in the first half by a CU player, besting the previous-latest of 44:44 by Storie Ledger in 2012 at Arizona.
•   It was only the fourth goal ever scored in the 45th minute by a Buffs player.
Colorado Cup Notes (complete notes on pages 27-29)
•   CU opened the season with two of its three Colorado Cup matches, traveling to Air Force on Aug. 19 (won 2-0) and hosting Colorado State on Aug. 21 (won 2-1).
•   Colorado has won the Colorado Cup in four of the five seasons of the competition and finished second in 2013.
•   Erin Greening and Mikaela Kraus are CU's two returning players who have scored in the Colorado Cup, each scoring one goal last season (Greening vs. CC and Kraus vs. DU).
•   This year Sarah Kinzner, Alex Vidger (both vs. Air Force), Taylor Kornieck and Danica Evans (both vs. CSU) have all scored goals.
•   With one match remaining for all six teams in the Colorado Cup, CU is in sole possession of first place and a win against Denver on Sept. 17 will clinch the fifth Colorado Cup for the Buffs.

Spring Recap
•   CU finished the spring with a 4-0-2 record, defeating Air Force (1-0), Denver (2-1), Colorado College (1-0) and Nebraska (3-1), and tying Northern Colorado (1-1) and South Dakota State (1-1).

Hogg Returns
•   Kahlia Hogg is back for her senior season after missing the majority of last season with an injury.

National Team Notes
•   Kornieck traveled to England in July for two matches and training with the U-18 Women's National Team and started both matches against England.
•   Kinzner started all five matches for Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Honduras and scored two goals (one against Trinidad & Tobago and one against Jamaica), helping Canada reach the finals (United States won 1-0). (more details below)
•   Shymka also competed for Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Honduras and played in two matches as a reserve, totaling 27 minutes on the pitch.
Kinzner Shines at CONCACAF Championship
•   Sarah Kinzner competed for Canada at the 2015 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Honduras in December.
•   Kinzner started all five matches and scored two goals, leading Canada to the finals against the United States.
•   Canada qualified for the 2016 U-20 World Cup by finishing in the top three (Canada lost 1-0 to the United States in the finals).

Newcomers Making an Impact
•   Last season, freshmen Erin Greening, Sarah Kinzner, Brooklyn Varnadore, Alex Vidger and Stephanie Zuniga along with Portland transfer Danica Evans each stepped up, playing important roles this season, whether starting or coming off the bench.
•   The group of newcomers combined for 50 starts, nine goals, five assists and 106 shot attempts, or 38 percent of the team's goals and 39 percent of the team's shots.
•   Redshirt freshman Scout Watson started four of the final seven matches in goal and had a 1.89 GAA and .529 save percentage on the season in six appearances.
•   In two matches so far this season, four newcomers have started each of the first two matches and newcomers have combined for one goal and 25 shot attempts.
