No. 18 Colorado Rolls Past New Orleans

BOULDER — For the third straight match, the 18th ranked Colorado volleyball team swept its opponent, this time taking down New Orleans, 25-18, 25-13, 25-12 on Saturday afternoon at the Omni Invitational.
WHAT HAPPENED: Three Buffs, Alexis Smith, Gabby Simpson and Justine Spann, recorded a team high six kills. Naghede Abu tallied seven blocks while Spann also led the team in digs with 13.
SET 1: The Buffs had a 14-7 lead in the first set before the Privateers were able to cut the advantage to three points at 15-12. CU used a 4-1 run to increase its lead to 19-12, but UNO was not going to let the Buffs go easily and recorded the following three points (19-15). At that point, CU rallied and finished the set with a 6-1 run (25-18).
SET 2: Colorado only led by three points (7-4) early in the set before stringing together a 5-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage. The Buffs kept attacking and increased their lead to 11 points (22-11) before finishing the set 25-13. CU held the Privateers to a - .057 hitting percentage while attacking at its own .440 percentage.
SET 3: The Buffs did not waste time in the final set, taking a 10-1 advantage to start. CU just kept attacking and won the set 25-12, holding UNO to a -.156 hitting percentage with five kills and 10 errors.
TEAM STATISTICS: The Buffs hit .296 in the match with 35 kills and 11 errors on 81 attacks, while UNO was held to a -.070 hitting percentage with 25 kills and 32 errors on 100 attacks. CU tallied 34 assists while UNO recorded 22. The Buffs secured the advantage on digs (39-33), out-blocked the Privateers 11.0-6.0 and had four service aces to UNO's one.
NOTEABLE: The Buffs are now 7-2 on the season…First year head coach Jesse Mahoney has not suffered a loss at the Coors Events Center as the Buffs are 4-0 at home thus far this season…New Orleans is 3-9 this season and went 0-3 at the Omni Invitational.
NEXT UP: The Buffs host Colorado State at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for the final match of the Omni Invitational at the Coors Events Center. This is the first meeting for the two teams since 2014.

I think we went in and out of that but certainly in set two and set three, did a really nice job. It was good to get Justine Spann in some more and Lillie Klemmer and other players who are doing some really good things in our practice gym. It's good to see them put that into play on the court."
