Buffs Wrap Up IU Invitational With 5-3 Day In Doubles

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Colorado's women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the IU Winter Invitational on Monday with two more rounds of doubles play at the IU Tennis Center here at the Indiana University Bloomington. The Buffs finished the day 5-3 overall in the two rounds.
Round 1
CU matched up mostly with Abilene Christian and went 2-2 in competition. Nuria Ormeño Ruiz and Jeannez Daniel came away with a 7-5 victory over Whitney Williams and Erin Walker. Ilana Oleynik and Annabelle Andrinopoulos also earned a win, 6-4 against Jordan Henry and Autumn Crossnoe.
Round 2
The Buffs wrapped up the weekend with their best doubles showing, finishing 3-1 in the final round of play. Brigitte Beck and Kyra Wojcik blew past Anna McCoy and Emma Love of Indiana with a 6-0 shutout. Oleynik and Andrinopoulos also had a quick victory against Ansley Boarman and Henry from ACU, 6-0. Ormeño Ruiz and Chloe Hule pulled out the final win for CU, topping ACU's Sarah Adams and Lucile Pothier, 6-4.
Overall, Colorado finished the weekend 10-6 in singles matches and 14-10 in doubles matches over the three-day tournament against Indiana, Marquette and Abilene Christian. The Buffs will open the dual-match season on Saturday at home against Northern Colorado with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center in Boulder.

"We switched it up and this weekend has been a lot about doubles, and with the addition of Ilana [Oleynik], trying to see where she fits in [to the lineup]. We definitely made some ground on our doubles combinations and possibly have a couple of different options out there for a full lineup. Having some flexibility and having some options is good with the doubles lineup."
On the benefit of playing a tournament before starting dual matches
"It was three days of solid tennis. Having the competition for three days is better than having three solid days of practice. It lets everyone get the cobwebs out and lets everyone see where they are, see what they need to continue to work on and that's what the week and following weeks coming up will be about between matches. Getting this much competition in early is good. Everyone should be walking away feeling pretty good about their games. Everyone is hitting great balls and everyone is moving well so I think we accomplished this weekend what we wanted to. Now it's about getting ready for UNC and CSU next weekend. We have a great group. They work hard and they compete hard and now we're ready to open the dual-match season next weekend."
