Golf Tied for Second at Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite

October 10, 2017 | Women's Golf

SAMMAMISH, WASH. — Through 36-holes of play, the University of Colorado women's golf team sits tied for second place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite.

The 12th-ranked Buffaloes posted a 290-295—585 total at the Sahalee Country Club. Colorado struggled a little bit in the second round due to weather conditions adding five strokes from round one. Washington is in first place with a 1-under par, 575, and has a comfortable 10-stroke lead over second place CU and BYU at 585. San Francisco is in third at 17-over par, 593, while Georgetown rounds out the top-five teams at 32-over par 608.

"We had a little bit of everything today," said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. "Some rain, sleet and fun. No snow, but everything else. The team played pretty decent in the morning, then in the afternoon we started off really well but unfortunately had a few holes on our last nine that we didn't handle very well. A lot of good play out there and we will see what we can do tomorrow and have a nice comeback!"

Leading the Buffs on the first day of the tournament was sophomore Robyn Choi, who carded a 2-under par 71-71—142. Choi was one of only three individuals to record an eagle on the day as she fired out her eagle on her second hole of the day.  Choi's second round was completely split as she recorded four birdies on her back nine to turn around and record three bogeys on the front nine to give her a 1-under 71. Choi is tied for second and is in a decent position heading into Wednesday, only six strokes back.

Kirsty Hodgkins is tied for seventh place at 146 or 2-over par. Although she added four strokes from her first round Hodgkins only dropped five spots on the par 72, 5,980-yard course format. Hodgkins also carded six birdies, four in the second round but added eight total bogeys.

Brittany Fan is also tied for seventh at 2-over 146. Fan shot even-par 72 in the morning with four birdies and four bogeyes to offset and wrapped up the afternoon with a 2-over par 74. Similar to Hodgkins, Fan started off her second round strong recording three birdies, five pars and a bogey to finish her back nine at 2-under. But on Fan's front nine she collected four bogeys.

Freshman Alisha Lau is tied for 30th place and currently leads the team in par-3 scoring at an average of 2.63. Lau started off the morning strong finishing her first nine at 1-under but struggled a little bit on her second nine carding four bogeys, a double against three pars and a birdie. With weather conditions, the freshman hung tough to finish her second round at 6-over par 78.

Gillian Vance was up and down throughout each of the two rounds, but was the only Buff to improve between rounds as she shaved off five strokes from her first round. She carded an 11-over par, 80-75—155 through 36 holes. She drained four birdies on the day to go along with 19 pars and is tied for 33rd-place heading into the final round.

The tournament concludes on Wednesday at the Sahalee Country Golf Club.
