Volleyball Hosts Arizona & Arizona State In Penultimate Weekend

BOULDER— Colorado will host Arizona and Arizona State at the Coors Events Center this weekend in the penultimate weekend of the regular season. The Buffs will face off on Friday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. against Arizona. On Saturday, Nov. 18, CU will face Arizona State at 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado is 19-8 overall entering the weekend of action and is also 9-7 on Pac-12 play, which is tied for fifth.
 
Junior Alexa Smith leads the Buffs and ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with 3.93 kills per set and is fourth in the league in attacks (10.86 per set), while junior Frankie Shebby is eighth in the conference with 3.42 kills per set. Junior Naghede Abu has the fourth best hitting percentage in the league (.359). Colorado's offense is directed by freshman setter Brynna DeLuzio. She ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with a 10.85 assists per set average and has guided the Buffs to a .247 hitting efficiency.
 
Defensively the Buffs are led by Abu who has recorded 1.19 blocks per set (eighth in the Pac-12). Junior Gabby Carta-Samuels ranks seventh in the conference with a 3.63 digs per set mark.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: Arizona is 10-15 this season and is tied for ninth in the Pac-12 with a 4-12 mark. The Wildcats are coming off a five-set win over then-No. 16 Oregon after losing four straight. Kendra Dahlke leads UA and is 10th in the conference with 3.29 kills per set. She is also eighth in the Pac-12 with 10.24 attacks per set. Julia Patterson has guided the Wildcats to a .210 hitting percentage and is fifth in the Pac-12 with 10.08 assists per set. As a team, UA has averaged 12.64 kills, 13.69 digs and 2.33 blocks per set this season.
                The Buffs won a close 3-2 contest between the two teams earlier this season in Tucson. Shebby and Smith each recorded 25 kills in the win.
 
SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS: Arizona State is 10-18 this season, 0-16 in Pac-12 play. Oluoma Okaro is the top attacker for the Sun Devils with 4.39 kills per set, the third highest in the conference and 19th in the NCAA. She is also sixth in the conference with 10.65 attacks per set. As a team, ASU has recorded 13.14 kills per set while hitting .211 and is second in the league with 16.43 digs per set, thanks in part to Halle Harker's Pac-12 leading 5.39 digs per set, which also ranked 20th in the NCAA.   
The Buffs swept the Sun Devils in their first meeting this season in Tempe.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Buffs finish the regular season next week. They will start the week off in Berkeley, Cal., on Wednesday, Nov. 22, against Cal. CU will return home to face Utah in the regular season finale on Friday, Nov. 24.
 
MATCH PROMOTIONS VS. ARIZONA:
  • There will be a canned food drive at the match. Fans who donate will receive a free general admission ticket voucher to the women's basketball game on Dec. 21.
  • The team will sign autographs following the match on the concourse behind section 4.

  • State Farm is the match sponsor. Check with your local State Farm agent for free tickets.
  • Head coach Jesse Mahoney will host a pre-match 'Chalk Talk', in the Coors Club Room approximately 35 minutes prior to the start of the match. This is open to the public.
  • The team will sign autographs following the match on the concourse behind section 4.
 
CU TICKET INFORMATION
Single match tickets start at just $5 for general admission and $8 for reserved seating. Kids 12 and under are free. Fans can purchase single match and season tickets online at CUBuffs.com or by calling 303-49-BUFFS.
 
 
CLEAR BAG POLICY
In an effort to provide a safer environment for fans, the University of Colorado will continue its clear bag policy at the Coors Events Center for all CU volleyball matches, men's basketball and women's basketball games.
               
Fans may bring one clear bag no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches, or a one-gallon reseal-able clear plastic storage bag, into the arena. Fans will also be allowed one small clutch purse, no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.     
               
Bags that are not allowed into the CEC include backpacks, large purses, oversized tote bags, camera bags and binocular cases, diaper bags, fanny packs and printed plastic bags.
