Buff Alpine & Nordic Teams Set For Racing

Colorado’s ski team to race for the first time this winter in upcoming FIS events
BOULDER — The NCAA circuit does not kick off until after the new year, but for the University of Colorado ski team they will be competing in FIS sanctioned races coming up over the course of the next week.

Alpine Set for NorAm Cup Opener
The 2017-18 NorAm Cup kicks off its circuit in Colorado beginning on Saturday, Nov. 18, and the Buffaloes will be up at Copper Mountain and the Loveland Ski Area competing in the races. There will be two slalom and two giant slalom races for both the men and the women as a part of the cups first events of the season.

The women kick things off at Loveland Ski Area on Saturday and Sunday with a pair of slalom races. The men begin at Copper Mountain with the giant slalom on the same two days.

Shifting over to Monday and Tuesday, the women will have their two giant slalom races those days at Copper Mountain while the men will be running their slalom races there as well.

The NorAm Cup is one of the tours of competitions organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS) that takes place in North America. Last winter, CU's David Ketterer won the slalom title of the NorAm Cup.

Nordic Squads Head To West Yellowstone
The Nordic teams will depart Boulder on Friday to make its way up to West Yellowstone, Mont. and the Rendezvous Ski Trails where they will spend the Thanksgiving break preparing for a FIS race that takes place there on Saturday, Nov. 25. The Buffs will be racing in the freestyle, 5K for the women and 10K for the men.

Hyncicova To Spend December Working To Qualify for the Czech Republic Olympic Team
After the FIS race in West Yellowstone on Nov. 25, 2017 NCAA freestyle and classic champion Petra Hyncicova will depart for Europe on Nov. 29 to prepare for her Olympic qualification races with the Czech Republic National Team.

She first heads to France where she will race in the European Cup at Premanon on Dec. 9-10. She will race in a 5K classic on Dec. 9 and a 10K freestyle on the Dec. 10.

After that, she will discuss her next potential race with her coach, which could be at the World Cup in Toblach, Italy on Dec. 16 (10K freestyle) and Dec. 17 (10K classic pursuit). If she does not do the World Cup race, her plan as of now will be to compete at another European Cup event in St. Ultich, Austria, Dec. 15-17.

Hyncicova will return to the United States on Dec. 31 and travel to Anchorage, Alaska to compete with the Buffs in the first NCAA races of the season, which coincides with the U.S. Cross Country Nationals at Kincaid Park, Jan. 3-5.

Ketterer's Next World Cup Races
Sophomore David Ketterer already has one World Cup race this season under his belt and is gearing up for his next appearance. As a member of the German National Team, he will train with that squad that will be out in Colorado for the World Cup races taking place at Beaver Creek Nov. 29-Dec. 3. He will train specifically on the giant slalom and potentially race in that event when it runs on Saturday, Dec. 3.
After that he is scheduled for a World Cup slalom start in Val d'Isere, France on Dec. 10 and is looking at racing Dec. 22 in the slalom at Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.
