Ruiz, McClurkin Jr. Named Athletes of the Week

BOULDER- Nuria Ormeño Ruiz (women's tennis) and Duane McClurkin Jr. (men's track) were named the CU Athletes of the Week for their performances from the week of March 26 - April 1.
 
Ormeño Ruiz had a stellar day powering past No. 51 ranked Caroline Doyle of Stanford. Her first set was a quick one downing Doyle 6-0. The second set was a little more of a battle for Ormeño Ruiz but she pushed back and settled in to get the 6-4 set and match victory. This is Ormeño Ruiz's second Pac-12 win this season and first victory over Stanford's No. 1 singles player.
 
In track, McClurkin Jr. paced the Buffs in Greely collecting two first place finishes on the day. He raced to a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 21.15 seconds, only .03 seconds off his PR time. McClurkin Jr. also took home the 400 meter event title clocking a an impressive 47.17 PR time. McClurkin's time currently sits as the No. 20th time in the West NCAA Region.

Cali Castagnola (women's lacrosse) led CU with six points in a 1-1 week that included a 9-7 win against Delaware and a 10-6 loss to No. 5 Stony Brook. She recorded five goals and one assist and was 3-3 on free-position attempts.
 
In the win against Delaware, Castagnola recorded three goals with three shots on goal. Two of her goals were on free-position attempts. She also added one assist for the Buffs. In the loss to Stony Brook, Castagnola recorded a pair of goals, again converting on both of her shots on goal.
 
Esther Lee (women's golf) the 25th-ranked individual in the nation, notched her third top-10 finish of the season with a ninth place effort with a 1-over 217 after carding a 1-over 73 in her final round. Lee was 1-over on the front nine holes, with bogeys on No. 4 (357-yard, par 4) and No. 8 (162-yard, par 3) and a birdie on the 154-yard, par 3 No. 5. The back nine, however, was a bit of a roller coaster for Lee as she recorded the first eagle of the season for the Buffs on the 451-yard, par 5 No. 15, but double-bogeyed the 160-yard, par 3 No. 12; Lee also had a birdie and bogey on the back nine. In total, Lee tallied one eagle, two birdies, 11 pars, three bogeys and one double-bogey.
