September 26, 2017 | Women's Golf
COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO – The University of Colorado women's golf team broke multiple school records here Tuesday and sits in first place after two rounds of the Coeur D'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga.
Colorado finished the day with a 36-hole school record 282-268—550 or 18-under par on the par 71, 6,088 Coeur D'Alene Resort golf course. Illinois sits nine strokes back in second place behind the buffs with a 280-279—559 two-round score. BYU is currently in third place at 1-over par 569. Indiana is in fourth place with a 288-283—571 scorecard while Washington State rounds out the top five teams at 4-over par 572.
"The team played really well, especially this afternoon." head coach Anne Kelly said. "In the morning they also played pretty solid. But I was just really impressed with the play of Kirsty and Robyn today. Both got on birdie rolls and it was really fun to watch. They were tough competitors coming down the stretch there. Just excited for them and the rounds they played."
Additionally, the team broke the school record for low 18-hole score as they shot a 268 or 16-under par in the second round. The previous score was 277 from 2015 at the East and West Match Play as well as a 277 from the 2012 Clover Cup first round.
Sophomore Kirsty Hodgkins shot a school record 9-under par (68-65—133) and is in first place after two rounds. Hodgkins now owns the low 36-hole par 71 school record and moves into second overall behind Esther Lee's 130. Hodgkins came out on fire in both rounds, shooting a 68 or 3-under par in the first round and went on to shoot another record-breaking performance carding a 6-under 65 to break the school record for lowest 18-hole score on a par 71 course.
Robyn Choi also enjoyed a record-breaking performance as she sits in third place with a scorecard of 72-65--137 or 5-under par. Choi shaved seven strokes off her first round to turn in a school record 6-under 65 round of 18 to join Hodgkins with the lowest round on a par 71 course in school history. Choi also began her day on fire carding a back nine score of 31 to land her in the record books once more as she now moves into second all time for CU for the lowest nine-hole score.
Brittany Fan put together a solid day as the senior sits tied for ninth at 2-under par and posted a 70-70—140. Fan recorded the only eagle for the Buffs on the day on the par 5-hole No. 15 in the first round. Fan was a little up and down through the first round but in the second she recorded 17 pars and one birdie to finish at 1-under.
"Britany played really solid golf she just couldn't get a put to drop this morning," Kelly said. "Gillian had a very good first round and Alisha struggled in the morning round but brought it back very well this afternoon. It's nice to see a full team effort today."
Freshman Allisha Lau shaved nine strokes off her first round to move up 40 positions after two rounds. She is tied for 30th place with a scorecard of 77-68—145 or 3-over par. Lau started her day off struggling just a little carding two double bogeys in the back nine of the first round but fired back in the second round. Lau even birdied the par-3-hole No. 14 that she doubled earlier in the day.
Gillian Vance is tied for 60th place. Vance shot a 72-78—150, 8-over par. In her first round Vance recorded three birdies, 12 pars, two bogeys and a double, but struggled in the second round tallying seven bogeys.
