Nordic skiers Hedda Baangman and Petter Reistad have earned UCHealth CU Athlete of the Week honors for the outstanding performances at last week's Utah Invitational.
Â
Hedda Baangman, a freshman from Oestersund, Sweden, finished on the podium of both Utah Invitational events held at the Rendezvous Ski Trails in West Yellowstone, Mont. She edged out teammate Petra Hyncicova to finish first in the 5K classic race on Thursday, her second consecutive victory in 5K classic events. Then on Friday, she finished third in the 15K freestyle race for her second podium finish of the weekend. Baangman was the high scorer at the Utah Invitational, which also earned her the distinction of RMISA Skier of the Week for women's Nordic.
Â
On the men's side, Petter Reistad, a junior from Baerum, Norway, led the way for CU at the Utah Invitational. On Thursday, he raced to a second-place finish in the 10K classic, beating the defending NCAA Champion Martin Bergstroem (Utah) by 1.6 seconds. His result gave the Buffs a 89-88 edge over Utah for the 10K race victory. Then on Friday, Reistad placed third in the 20K freestyle event to earn his second podium finish of the weekend and third of the season. He was the leading scorer among the men, and also earned RMISA Skier of the Week honors for men's Nordic.
