AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Colorado women's golf team recorded its best round at the Betsy Rawls Invitational here today, shooting a 4-over 292 in the final round on Sunday, finishing ninth overall with a 45-over 909 (311-305-292).

Each day of the tournament, the Buffs showed improvement at the University of Texas Golf Course. They started the first day with a 23-over 311. The second day, CU shaved five strokes off their round total, finishing with an 18-over 306. The Buffs saw their biggest improvement on Sunday as they cut 14 strokes off their total from Saturday for a 4-over 292.

Texas won their tournament after recording a 10-under 854 (291-284-279), while Kent State finished with a 3-under 861 (294-281-296) for second.

"Today was a better day for the team, although I think everyone felt like they missed several birdie opportunities," head coach Anne Kelly said. "The result is not what we hoped for, but our younger players especially gained some valuable experience this week. We had a very good practice session after yesterday's round as the range was finally dry enough to use for practice. We hope to take the momentum from today into our next event."

Junior Kirsty Hodgkins moved up seven spots into a tie for 12th (3-over 219) after her best round of the tournament, a 2-under 70. She started her day on the No. 8 hole and recorded a pair of pars before making the turn, but then on the following hole, she earned a bogey. Then, on hole No. 11, a par 5, she recorded her first eagle of the season. She went 2-under on the next hold after recording a birdie, and three holes later, she was 3-under after recording two birdies and one bogey. Hodgkins finished out the back nine with three straight pars. With seven holes remaining, she finished her day with two bogeys, one birdie and four pars.

Senior Gillian Vance held steady, tied for 34th, finishing the tournament at 11-over 227. She recorded her second straight 3-over 75 on Sunday. Starting on hole No. 9, she made par the first two holes before tallying her first birdie of the day. That birdie was followed by three pars before she recorded a bogey to draw even. She finished the back nine with two pars and another bogey. As she started the front nine, Vance recorded her third of four bogeys of the day to go up 2-over. She stayed pretty consistent for the remaining seven holes with six pars and one bogey.

Freshman Malak Bouraeda moved up four spots to tie for 45th with a 15-over 231, finishing the third round with a 2-over 74. Also starting on the ninth hole, she was even through her first four holes before recording her first of three bogeys, which came on hole No. 13. She finished out the back nine with five consecutive pars, putting her at 1-over heading into the final eight holes. She stayed very consistent, finishing the round out with five pars, one birdie and two bogeys.

She was even through the back nine, recording two birdies, two bogeys and five pars. As she started the final nine holes, she made consecutive pars before making a bogey to go up 1. Three holes later, she tallied her third birdie of the afternoon, bringing her back to even. Unfortunately she earned another bogey on the following hole to go up one, but stayed at 1-over as she finished with two pars.
