Buffs Head Back To Texas For Trinity Forest Invitational

October 28, 2018 | Women's Golf

BOULDER — For the second time in as many tournaments, the University of Colorado women's golf team will head to Texas, this time to Dallas to compete at the Trinity Forest Invitational, October 29-30.

Southern Methodist will host the tournament, which begins on Monday at 8 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Two rounds of continuous play will take place on Monday. The third and final round is slated for 8 a.m. on Tuesday and is also a shotgun start. Trinity Forest will play to a length of 6,233 yards, Par 72.

The field of 12 teams has seven programs ranked in the top 60 by GolfStat: No. 18 Illinois, No. 25 Oregon State, No. 42 SMU, No. 43 Colorado, No. 44 Tennessee, No. 54 Kentucky and No. 58 Kansas. The other teams participating are UTSA, Dallas Baptist, Kansas State, North Texas, and Chattanooga.

"Illinois is ranked pretty high and Oregon State has been playing really well this fall," head coach Anne Kelly said. "There are a few good teams in there for sure."

The Buffs have had to play most of the fall without a full roster. Sophomore Alisha Lau has missed all of the fall and junior Robyn Choi is currently playing in the LPGA Q-Series. Without these two players, the Buffs have looked to other members of the roster to step up, and the one who has stepped up the most is senior Gillian Vance, along with junior Kirsty Hodgkins.

"Gillian has played some consistent golf," Kelly said. "Her putter wasn't working the best in Austin, but she is a great putter and I'm sure it will come around. Kirsty is really close to playing well. Again, she just need a few putts to drop. It's not that they are putting badly, I think having the experience on the Bermuda greens in Austin will hopefully help for this upcoming course. Both of those players have played this course. It's a very challenging, unique, really different course than we play. It's more like a Scottish Links course.

LPGA Q-SERIES UPDATE: Current University of Colorado junior Robyn Choi is 89th after the first four rounds at the LPGA Q-Series. She shot a 7-over 79 in the first round and followed that up with another 7-over 79 in the second round. She rebounded in the third round, this time with a 5-under 67 to put her at 9-over 225 overall. In her fourth round, she shot a 4-over 76 and is currently 13-over 301.

The final four rounds will be played Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Pinehurst, N.C.
