Buffs Surge Into Sixth at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The University of Colorado women's golf team posted the second-best team score here Monday in the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, propelling the Buffaloes into sixth place.
Colorado, the only team to climb multiple spots on the leaderboard on the second day, turned in a 15-over par 299 score to move up four places. After two rounds, the Buffs have a 609 or 41-over par for at the par 71, 5,981-yard Rio Mar Country Club.
"Better day today for the team," Colorado head coach Anne Kelly said. "The conditions once again, were tough with a constant wind of 20mph or more. More of the rust came off today and hoping for a good day tomorrow from all the team members."
The fourth ranked Arkansas stay atop the leaderboard with a 586 or 18-over par two-day total while Iowa State moved up one spot into second at 23-over par 591. Kent State dropped one place into third carding a 594 or 26-over par two-day total. North Carolina State and TCU traded positions as North Carolina State moved into fourth at 32-over par 600, while TCU rounds out the top five teams in fifth at 35-over par 603.
Sophomore Robyn Choi turned in Colorado's best round of the tournament so far, carding a 1-over 72 to have a two day scorecard of 75-72—147. Choi moved up 14 places and is tied for fifth place at 5-over par. Choi's front nine was a little up and down as she collected three birdies against three bogeys to finish at even par.
Kirsty Hodgkins had the biggest jump in rankings for the Buffs as she moved up 29 places to sit tied for 23rd place after two rounds. Hodgkins shaved seven strokes off her first-round score carding a 2-over 73 in the second round to have a two-day total of 80-73—153. Hodgkins started on hole no. 17 where she had three straight pars before dropping a bogey on hole no. 2. She bounced back immediately to fire out three birdies in a row to finish her front nine at 1-under par.
"Robyn played a very solid round and so did Kirsty," Kelly said. "Brittany was also playing well but had a couple of double bogies that hurt her score. Gillian got back on her game after a rough start."
Senior Brittany Fan moved up nine spots on the leaderboard and is also tied for 23rd place. Fan posted a 5-over par 76 during the second round and now has a two day scorecard of 77-76—153. She was consistent throughout much of the day, recording 11 pars, two birdies, three bogeys and two doubles.
Gillian Vance recorded a 7-over 78 second round score to move up eight spots. Vance is now tied for 40th place at 15-over par 157. Vance shaved one stroke off her first round score and recorded 11 pars, one birdie to four bogeys and two doubles.
Freshman Alisha Lau posted a 11-over 82 during the second round and now has a two day scorecard of 79-82—161 and sits tied for 54th place. Competing as an individual is Jaclyn Murray who has a two day scorecard of 84-85—169 and is tied for 63rd place.

Celia Barquin Arozamena (74-71—145) of Iowa State moved up 12 spots and is in second place after shooting an even par 71 Monday. Carley Cox (East Carolina) and India Clyburn (North Carolina State) are both tied for third at 4-over par 146 while Robyn Choi (Colorado), Dylan Kim (Arkansas) and Michaela Finn (Kent State0 are tied for fifth place at 5-over par 147.
The final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will begin at 5:00 am MT. The Buffaloes will be paired with TCU and Maryland and will start from holes seven through 12.
