Lacrosse Set To Open Home Schedule Against Former Rival San Diego State

BOULDER — After starting the season with three straight games on the road, the No. 20 Colorado lacrosse team will open its home slate on Sunday, February 25, against former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival, San Diego State. The contest is set for a 12 p.m. start at Kittredge Field.

Admission is free, as is parking in Lot 416. Overflow parking is available in the RG Zone next to the Coors Events Center (just off of Regent Dr. and Colorado Ave).

ABOUT THE BUFFS: Colorado is ranked 20th in the IWLCA and NIKE/U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Polls. The Buffs are 1-2 after the first two weekends of action. Both of their losses have come to top-15 teams this season.

Miranda Stinson and Darby Kiernan each have 11 points through three games for CU, which ranks 19th in the NCAA. Stinson has 10 goals so far this season (12th in the NCAA), while Kiernan has totaled eight (23rd in the NCAA). Kiernan and Stinson are also ranked quite high in free-position goals. Kiernan is 29th in the nation, averaging 1.67 per game, while Stinson is 41st with 1.33 per game. Kiernan is also second in the NCAA with 10.33 draw controls per game.

Kelsie Garrison and Sophia Gambitsky have each picked up 10 ground balls this season, while Sarah Brown is next on the team with seven. Garrison also leads the Buffs with four caused turnovers; Brown has three. Gambitsky has played 150:00 minutes in goal this season. She has allowed 13.60 goals per game and has a .346 save percentage.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO STATE: San Diego State is 2-0 to start the season, defeating both California (12-11) and Arizona State (14-13) by one goal. The Aztecs will face Denver on Friday, Feb. 23, before heading to Boulder to take on the Buffs.

Harlowe Steele has a team-best 10 points. She has recorded nine goals and one assist through the first two games. Jill Haight and Elizabeth Rourke are second on the team with five points. Haight is also the team leader in draw controls with 15. Katy Sharretts has played all 120:00 minutes and has allowed 24 goals in two games for 12.00 per game. Sharretts has made 22 saves for a .478 save percentage.

THE SERIES: Colorado owns a 6-0 record against SDSU, which includes a 2-0 record in Boulder. SDSU was a conference rival for the Buffs in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for four years.
THE KITT FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Buffs have done quite well at Kittredge Field since 2014, compiling a 24-5 record. CU is currently in the middle of a 10-0 run at Kitt. The Buffs won the last three home games in 2016 did not drop a contest at Kitt in 2017 (7-0).

PROMOTIONS: Early arriving fans will receive a Buffs beaded necklace and students who arrive early will get a free donut.

The only regular season game that will not be played at Kittredge is on April 8 against Arizona State. That contest will be played at Prentup Field, the site of the 2018 Pac-12 Lacrosse Championships. Tickets will be $5, while children 12 and under will be free.

PAC-12 TOURNAMENT TICKET INFORMATION: Tickets for the Inaugural Pac-12 Women's Lacrosse Tournament, April 26-29, in Boulder, are now on sale. Colorado will serve as the host for the first ever tournament. The quarterfinal games will be played on Thursday, April 26, while the semifinals will be contested on Friday, April 27. The championship game is set for Sunday, April 29. All five games will be played at Prentup Field, the home of Colorado's soccer program.

CLEAR BAG POLICY
In an effort to provide a safer environment for fans, the University of Colorado will continue its clear bag policy at the Prentup Field for all lacrosse and soccer games, which includes the Pac-12 Women's Lacrosse Tournament.

Fans may bring one clear bag no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches, or a one-gallon reseal-able clear plastic storage bag, into the arena. Fans will also be allowed one small clutch purse, no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.             Â

Bags that are not allowed into the CEC include backpacks, large purses, oversized tote bags, camera bags and binocular cases, diaper bags, fanny packs and printed plastic bags.
