Colorado Heads To Bay Area For Two Pac-12 Road Wins

BOULDER – After a busy weekend in which the University of Colorado women's tennis team played three matches in five days, CU will head to the Bay Area to take on the California Golden Bears and the Stanford Cardinal this weekend.

Last Friday, the Buffaloes earned its first win in a conference-opener since the 2008-09 season after a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Wildcats.

In doubles play, Colorado and Arizona split wins on court No. 2 and court No. 3. The pairing of juniors Jeannez Daniel and Ilana Oleynik taking down the Wildcats' Gitte Heynemans and Sophia Thomas, 6-2, in the No. 2 doubles match. Junior Brigitte Beck and sophomore Chloe Hule clinched it with a win over Arizona's Mary Lewis and Marie Van Aelst, 6-4, on court No. 1.

The Buffs have won the doubles point in 10 of 12 matches so far this season and are led by the pairing of

Beck and Hule, who saw their undefeated doubles season come to an end against Rice and are now 9-1.

In singles, four of the six matches went three sets with senior Kyra Wojcik and freshman Linda Huang picking up wins. Wojcik took a 6-4, 7-5 win over UA's Talya Zandberg on court No. 5 and the No. 1 singles match went wire to wire as the 113th-ranked Huang beat Lewis, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Huang leads the team in singles play with a 19-7 overall record with Hule behind her at 14-6.

Hule and her teammates celebrated the victory on court No. 2 after she clinched the match with a win over the Wildcats' Camila Wesbrooks, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

On Sunday, Colorado's upset bid of 34th-ranked Arizona State fell short in the third set of the final singles match as the Buffs fell to the Sun Devils, 4-3. After Colorado took an early 2-0 lead, Arizona State rattled off three straight singles wins to go up 3-2. After tying the match at 3-3, CU could not complete the comeback in the clinching singles match on court No. 6.

Tuesday's match against the Rice Owls came down to the third set of the final singles match, but the University of Colorado women's tennis team ran out of time, falling to the Rice Owls, 4-3.

With an overall record of 8-4 and 1-1 Pac-12 record, Colorado will take on the Bears on Friday at 2:30 p.m. MT the Hellman Tennis Complex. On Saturday at 1:00 p.m. MT, CU will face off against the Cardinal at Taube Family Tennis Stadium; the match will be available to watch on streamingtennis.com.
