Buffs Hand Out Team Awards
May 07, 2018 | Tennis
BOULDER – Colorado's women's tennis team celebrate its 2017-18 season on Sunday morning with the team banquet. Head coach Nicole Kenneally handed out the team awards for the season at the celebration.
Sophomore Chloe Hule took home three of the team's four awards, including the Strength & Conditioning Award, Clutch Player Award and Team MVP. Junior Brigitte Beck was named the team's Most Improved Player.
Hule, a native of Adelaide, South Australia, finished the season with a 13-14 singles record and 15-10 in doubles. She played the No. 2 singles position after spending her freshman season at No. 4 and No. 5, and held down the No. 1 doubles spot with Beck. She earned Pac-12 singles wins vs. Arizona and Arizona State, and had match-clinching singles wins against Northern Colorado and Arizona.
Beck, a native of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, had 10 singles wins and went a team-best 16-8 in doubles. She had match-clinching wins against Colorado State and Utah, one of her two Pac-12 wins (California being the other).
In doubles, Beck and Hule proved a consistent pair at the top of CU's lineup, going 11-6 together, including 3-2 in Pac-12 matches and 10-4 in dual matches. Four of their wins came at No. 1 as they moved up in the lineup after going 5-0 at the No. 2 position early in the season. They clinched the doubles point together vs. Colorado State, Sacramento State, New Mexico, Arizona and Arizona State. They also upset Utah's 65th-ranked doubles pair on April 21, CU's only doubles victory over a ranked opponent during the season.
The Buffs said goodbye to three seniors in Jeannez Daniel, Louise Ronaldson and Kyra Wojcik. Daniel was a three-year letterwinner and amassed 25 singles wins and a 29-24 doubles record with the Buffs. Ronaldson joined CU as a junior after transferring from Mississippi State and went 25-18 in singles matches and had 19 doubles victories. Wojcik wrapped up a four-year career with 38 singles wins and 32 doubles victories. Her seven Pac-12 singles wins are the second-most in CU history.
CU finished the season 9-12 overall, including 2-7 in the Pac-12. The two conference wins were tied for the most since joining the Pac-12.
