
CU Places Ten Athletes on Pac-12 All-Academic Team

BOULDER – University of Colorado's track and field team placed six men and four women on the 2018 Pac-12 All Academic teams the conference announced this morning.
Three men earned spots on the All-Academic First Team. Ben Saarel just finished his career at CU, and graduated with a degree in engineering physics and a grade point average of 3.98. Sophomore Caleb Penner was also selected for the first team. He is majoring in applied mathematics and engineering physics and maintains a GPA of 3.97. The final Buff earning a spot on the first team is freshman Nathan Pixler, a history major with a 3.83 GPA.
On the second team are sophomores Aaron Carmichael (3.69, integrative physiology) and Paxton Smith (3.68, open option), and also senior Christian Martin (3.65, international affairs).
Five men were also listed with honorable mention. They are Matthew Denton, Ryan Forsyth, Paden Gatlin, Chris Herrick and Justice Ramos.
On the women's side, senior Michaela Wenning leads the pack with a 3.98 GPA while majoring in chemical, biological engineering and biochemistry. Behind her is sophomore teammate Sage Hurta with a 3.95 GPA and is working on her degree in chemical, biological engineering and applied mathematics. And finally for the first team is Kaitlyn Benner with a 3.93 GPA as a chemical, biological engineering and sociology major.
On the second team is senior Erin Clark who holds a 3.76 GPA while earning her master's in education foundations, policy and practice.
Eleven women earned honorable mention recognition as well. They are Elisa Grandemange, Eriana Henderson, Sarah Hopkins, Karina Mann, Lucy May, Makena Morley, Drianna Mustin, Rajon O'Quinn, Abby Regner, Gabby Scott and Maja Wichhart-Donzo.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum of 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant contributor to their team.
