Perrin Finishes In Top 20 In 5,000 At NCAAs
June 08, 2018 | Track and Field
Â
EUGENE, Ore. – University of Colorado's Zach Perrin ran his last race for the Buffs tonight at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing 19th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:16:56.
Â
Perrin ran with the lead group out of the gate and was in second for the first portion of the race.
Â
"He did not make any mistakes, I don't think," CU head coach Mark Wetmore said. "He led early, the pace was slow so that was a good call to get out of the crowd and get on the rail. But the race began to accelerate and it got away from him.
Â
"He has been a great leader for us; he is going on now to his adult life. He did a lot of good running for us, conference championships and a lot of important contributions. We are really proud of him."
Â
During his career at Colorado, Perrin earned All-America honors in the indoor mile (4:03.48) and the outdoor 5,000 (14:41.50). He was the 2017 Pac-12 Champion in the men's outdoor 5,000, finishing in 13:58.48.
Â
Saturday afternoon the Buffs continue their competition with the Valerie Constien racing the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase finals and Erin Clark running the women's 5,000 finals.
