September 24, 2018 | Volleyball

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After upsetting No.23 Utah and taking No.14 USC to five sets, the University of Colorado women's volleyball team is back in the AVCA poll as the 23rd-ranked team in the nation.

Colorado entered last week receiving votes for two weeks in a row in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Buffs have been up and down the polls this season, beginning the season ranked 15th and falling to 21st and 24th before leaving the top-25.

The team has seen a resurgence in play in the past two weekends with six-straight wins before the fall to USC. The Buffs have been progressively improving play, which showed this past week with the first full week of having the entire team healthy.

The Pac-12 remains dominant in the polls with nine teams in the top-25 and 10 receiving votes. Stanford leads the way as the No.2-ranked team in the nation with five of the 64 first place votes. Oregon comes in at 12th, while USC and Washington are tied for 13th. UCLA falls to No.18, followed by four Pac-12 teams from 22 to 25 in Washington State, Colorado, Arizona and Utah, respectfully.

The Pac-12 conference continues to be one of the toughest volleyball conference with eight teams ranked. The Big Ten is the other comparable conference with seven teams, including five inside the top-10.

The Buffs push on in conference play with road matches at No.13 Washington and No.22 Washington State. The match with Washington will be on the Pac-12 Network Friday at 7 p.m., while the Washington State match will be available on Pac-12 Plus.
