Buffs Headed To Windy City Collegiate Classic
September 30, 2018 | Women's Golf
BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's golf team will continue its fall schedule at the Windy City Collegiate Classic, Oct. 1-2, in Wilmette, Ill. Northwestern University will host the event.
Â
The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days at the Westmoreland Country Club course, a par-72 layout that spans 6,360-yards.
Â
The competition this weekend will be some of the best in the country. In addition to CU, this year's field includes Arizona, the reigning NCAA Champion, Arizona State, Duke, Florida, Iowa State, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, San Diego State, South Carolina and Southern California.
Â
"This is like a mini National Championship," Colorado Head Coach Anne Kelly said. "I think it will be good for us to go up against that great competition again, get the competitive juices flowing, and get a sense of where we really are now."
Â
CU has played one tournament this fall, finishing tied for sixth at the Branch Law/Dick McGuire Invitational, but are eager to get back into action after having the last three weeks off.
Â
"In the first tournament, we were really close," Kelly said. "We were disappointed with the finish, but there were a lot of good signs. Practice has been going well. Like every team, our athletes have been battling some type of cold or whatever. They are getting through the first round of tests, so I hope they feel fairly caught up with school. Now we are really hitting our stride in a busy time competitively for us. We have a lot of tournaments coming up."
