Buffaloes Conclude Competition in MLK Invitational

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program concluded action in the MLK Invitational tonight in Albuquerque, N.M., highlighted by three personal-best marks in the 60-meter hurdles.
 
Davis Butte saw the largest personal improvement after he won the first heat of the preliminaries in the men's 60 hurdles. His time of 8.50 was nearly two-tenths of a second faster than his past previous best of 8.68. He followed up the performance with a seventh-place finish, crossing the line with a time of 8.54 seconds.
 
The women also had a pair of personal best times in the hurdle event, led by Michael Wenning's 10th-place finish at 8.78. She and Drianna Mustin both bettered their best times by seven-hundredths of a second with Mustin running 9.13 for 18th. Between the duo was Maja Wichhart-Donzo running 8.96 for 14th, while freshman Kylee Harr was unable to make it out of qualifying with a time of 9.89.
 
Also in the hurdles was Josh Farmer who ran 8.82 second to place 10th in the men's prelims.
 
The highest placing individual during the meet came in the men's triple jump. Gunner Rigsby placed third overall with a jump of 14.20m (46-7.25). He was joined by Cheyenne Cheshier as Buffaloes in field events today, with Cheshier placing 12th with a mark of 11.30m (37-1). Rigsby's mark was a season-best by 14 centimeters.
 
Four athletes doubled-up in events today; Harr, Farmer, Butte and Mustin. Harr opened in the women's 60 with a time of 8.10, while Farmer and Butte finished the men's 60 dash in 7.34 and 7.45, respectfully. Mustin was the only Buff to race farther than 60 meters when she finished seventh in the women's 800 with a time of 2:20.69.
 
Colorado will head to the Air Force Academy next weekend to compete in the jumps, sprints and throws before gearing up for the Colorado Invitational the following weekend when the whole squad will be performing.
