Buffs Host CU Invitational
January 30, 2019 | Track and Field
BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program will host one of the largest home meets of the season in the CU Invitational with more than 25 teams in attendance, starting tomorrow and finishing Saturday in the Indoor Practice Facility.
Â
The action begins tomorrow at 2 p.m. with the first day of the men's heptathlon and the women's pentathlon. Thursday will only play host to the multis and is free to attend. Friday's events begin at 9 a.m. and will host the conclusion of the heptathlon and all of the field events for the meet except the shot put. The highlighted seeded miles will begin with the men's race at 7:30 p.m., followed by the women's event at 7:40 p.m. The shot put and the rest of the running events begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Â
This meet will be the first seen action in the track season for the Colorado distance squad. The women are coming off their national championship finish in cross country, while the men are fourth. This will be the first meet that will include CU student-athletes in all track and field disciplines.
Â
Over the past two years this meet has rewritten the IPF records more than 35 times. Last year alone 17 facility records were written, including Dani Jones taking back the Colorado soil mile record with a mark of 4:36.05. The men's mile event will include 15 of the fastest milers from across the region, something that was very apparent last year with a dozen individuals under 4:11. Two years ago Ben Saarel ran 4:01.49 at this meet, the second-fastest mile ever ran in the state of Colorado.
Â
Thursday's events are free to the public, while Friday's admission is $5 and Saturday's events will be $8 admission, and anyone with a BuffOne card will receive free admission. CU's clear bag policy will be in affect and the IPF is a water-only facility. Fans can also follow results live at cubuffs.com/tracklive.
