Nayar Through To Championship Match

LAS VEGAS – Sophomore Sara Nayar powered through another three-set match Saturday for the Colorado Buffaloes tennis in the ITA Mountain Regional Championship to advance to the final Sunday morning.

No.53 Nayar is set for a championship matchup against the No.1-seeded and No.71-ranked Chiara Tomasetti of Northern Arizona Sunday morning at 10 a.m. (MDT). The sophomore played in a pair of matches Saturday, advancing to the finals after completing a comeback against New Mexico's Alisia Manolescu. Nayar dropped the first set 4-6, then took control in the second with a 6-3 win to force a third set. She completed the comeback with a 6-4 third set win.

The other semifinal match for CU came in the doubles with Monica Malinen and Nayar as the 53^rd-ranked duo in the nation against a duo from Northern Arizona. In the semis the tournament switched from an eight-game single set match to a best-of-three sets match to six games. The Buffs fell in the first 6-3, then repeated the performance in the second set.

The only other match for Colorado after a long week in Vegas was an extra match where one of the NAU tandem members took on Antonia Balzert. Adriana Sosnowska took down the freshman 6-1, 6-3.
