Buffs In Fifth at Rebel/Beach Invite As Second Round Is Suspended Due To Darkness

LAS VEGAS — The University of Colorado women's golf team is currently in fifth place at the Rebel/Beach Invitational as play was suspended due to darkness.
Play will start on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. PT. As soon as the second round is finished, round three will commence. Most teams still have a couple players yet to finish their second rounds.
The Buffs finished play on Monday with a 23-over 587 at the 6,353-yard, par 72 Spanish Trail Country Club. Arizona has the lead as the Wildcats have shot a 7-over 490. UNLV is second with a 9-over 568, while San Jose State is third with a 13-over 565. Virginia is four with a 15-over 479.
Results after the first round were quite close. UNLV and San Jose were tied for first after each team shot a 2-over 290. Arizona was one stroke behind with a 3-over 291 and Virginia was fourth after recording an 8-over 296. The Buffs were fifth with an 11-over 299, one stroke in front of sixth-place Charlotte (12-over 300).
"I saw a lot of good things from the team on a very difficult, cold, windy day today," head coach Anne Kelly said. "The team was really in the hunt most of the day. Unfortunately, we had some bad hiccups at the end of the second round that has really dropped us down in the team standings. We still have some players that need to finish their second round and then we will continue play for the third round. The forecast is for more cold; we will really have to tough it out and try to move up the leaderboard tomorrow."
Individually for the Buffs, freshman Malak Boureada and sophomore Elle Otten led the way as both were tied for 14th with a 2-over 74 through the first round. Boureada recorded 12 pars, two birdies and four bogeys in the first 18 holes, while Otten had 10 pars, three birdies and five bogeys.
Boureada is one of a handful to finish the second round and she did quite well, moving into a tie for fourth. She shot a 1-under in the second round to even her score to a 1-over 145. She recorded an impressive round with six birdies, eight pars, three bogeys and one double.
Otten dropped back slightly during the second round and is currently tied for 29th with one hole left to play in the round. She has recorded 11 pars and six bogeys for a 6-over 73.
Gillian Vance and Kirsty Hodgkins ended the day died for 25th. Vance was tied for 21st after the first round after shooting a 3-over 75 with 10 pars, three birdies, four bogeys and one double. She also finished the second round, shooting a 4-over 76 with 11 pars, two birdies, four bogeys and one double.
Hogkins has moved up three positions from the end of the first round and has one hole left in the second round. Through her first 18 holes, she had three birdies with 10 pars, as well as three bogeys and a pair of doubles. Her play improved in the second round and with one hole left, she is sitting with a 3-over 71, which puts her at a 7-over 147 for the tournament.
After one round, senior Haley Nist was tied for 51st after shooting a 6-over 78 and is also working her way back up in the standing. In her first 18, she made par on the first 11 holes played, but then finished the round with four bogeys, one double and two pars. She has played 16 holes in the second round and is currently 6-over (70).
Playing as an individual, freshman Kelsey Webster was 59th after the first round with a 7-over 79. She tallied 13 pars and three bogeys in addition to one triple. She has played 17 holes in the second round and is tied for 72nd with a 10-over 77.
UNLV's Elizabeth Prior led the field through the first round, shooting a 4-under 68. Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan is two strokes back (70) for second. There is a three-way tie for third as Abegail Arevalo (San Jose State), Maddie White (SJSU) and Anna Redding (UVa) all shot a 1-under 71.
When action was called on Monday night, Prior was still in the lead with 17 holes played. She was a 4-under 136 with one hole left.
