February 27, 2019 | Skiing
DENVER—Sophomore Hedda Baangman was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association MVP for women's Nordic for the 2019 season, the league announced Wednesday. The league also announced the All-RMISA teams, and the Buffs earned four first- and four second-team honorees.
The MVP honor essentially honors Baangman as both the highest finishing and most consistent skier for women's Nordic for the season. She finished nine of 10 races with six podium finishes, including one win, three second place finishes and one third place finish. The award is the accumulation of NCAA Qualification points for the season and she recorded 232 out of a possible 320, beating Denver's Taeler McCrerey by 11 points. CU also held the third and fourth spots on the MVP list with Anne Siri Lervik finishing third and Christina Rolandsen fourth.
Also announced Wednesday by the league office were the All-RMISA teams and the RMISA Skiers of the Week (meet) for the UAA Invitational and RMISA Championships.
A total of eight Buffs were named All-RMISA with four earning first-team honors and four earning a second-team nod. Baangman and Lervik were both first-team honorees along with freshman Mikaela Tommy for women's alpine and freshman Erik Dengerud for men's Nordic. Rolandsen took home second team honors along side Joey Young (men's alpine), Nora Christensen (women's alpine) and Alvar Alev (men's Nordic).
Five of the eight have been named All-RMISA in the past. Last season, Alev, Baangman, Christensen, and Alev were first-team honorees and Rolandsen was on the second team. In 2017, Rolandsen earned first-team honors and Lervik was on the second team.
Tommy was also named the RMISA Skier of the Week for the Alaska Anchorage Invitational, for which she won the giant slalom race and was seventh in the slalom. Baangman and Dengerud both won Skier of the Week honors for the RMISA Championships. Baangman finished second in the classic race and sixth in the freestyle while Dengerud hit the podium twice, winning the freestyle race and taking third in the classic race.
All eight Buffs honored Wednesday are among the 12 headed to the NCAA Championships next week in Stowe, Vt.
