Throwers Compete Sunday at CSU

BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program will send its throwers to the Doug Max Invitational at Colorado State University this Sunday.

The men will compete four athletes while the women will compete a pair. All field events begin at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer beginning first. The women's shot put will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the men and the men's discus will begin after the women' hammer. The javelin will begin after the discus is completed.

Tyler Sconce will be the lone Buffalo competing in three throws this weekend for the men. He will throw the shot, discus and hammer. Brock Knechtel and Caleb Penner will both toss the discus and hammer, while Henry Carlson will throw the discus and javelin.

Elisa Grandemange and Mariah Walker will compete for CU for the women. Grandemange will compete in three events, the discus, hammer and javelin. Walker will compete in the shot put and discus.

The throwers this season have been having some tremendous performances and improvements. Sconce dropped a six-meter personal best last weekend in the Colorado Invitational, nearly a 20-feet improvement to 46.65m (153-1). Penner also had a two-meter personal best at that meet when the wind was not favorable for such marks. Both women also had discus improvements at the Colorado Invitational,

Colorado competes most of the squad next weekend in California. The combined event athletes will compete in the Bryan Clay or Mt. SAC heptathlon and decathlons, while distance and throws will head to the Cardinal Classic in Stanford. Sprinters and hurdlers will compete in the Bryan Clay Invite, Mt. SAC and Long Beach Invite.
