Buffs Swept Out of Pac-12 Championships

OJAI, Calif. – The University of Colorado women's tennis team suffered a loss to No.34-ranked Washington State, 4-0, in the first round of the 2019 Pac-12 Championships.
The Buffaloes (10-14, 3-7 Pac-12) finish their season with the most wins in school history as WSU (19-9, 3-7 Pac-12) advance to take on the top-seeded Stanford.
The Cougs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after No.41 Hikaru Sato and Tiffany Mylonas upset No.31 Monica Malinen and Annabelle Andrinopoulos in the No.1 doubles match by a score of 6-1. They closed out the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the No.3 doubles match with Michaela Baylerlova and Aneta Miksovska defeating Ky Ecton and Tallulah Farrow.
Colorado started well but wasn't able to close as the team lost all of the first sets. WSU extended its lead after Mylonas defeated Andrinopoulos in the No.3 singles match 6-4, 6-1. They took a 3-0 lead after Ates won the No.6 singles match against Ecton 6-4, 6-2.
The clinching match came in the No.5 singles match with Miksoyska earning the win against Farrow 6-1, 6-3. The Buffs were battling in the No.1 singles match with No.89 Nayar down a set against No.39 Bayerlova. She lost the first set 6-2 but was tied 4-4 in the second when the match was decided. Forster had the closet first set with a 7-5 loss in the No.4 match against Savanna Ly-Nguyen, then was down 4-1 in the second. Malinen in the No.2 singles match dropped the first set to Sato 6-4 and was down 5-1 in the second.
The Buffs are on the outside looking in for the NCAA National Championships as the duo of Malinen and Andrinopoulos were ranked 31st this week with 32 teams going to the tournament.
