2020-2021 (Junior): Played in 10 matches as an individual and 17 in doubles ... Finished with a 4-6 record individually, including a 3-3 mark in the No.6 position ... Went 6-11 in doubles play ... Won a key match against No.12 Cal to help the Buffs to the upset ... Also picked up a doubles win in that match.
2019-2020 (Sophomore): Had a tough fall with only one singles win at the Husky Invite ... Picked up a doubles win with both Ellen Puzak and Antonia Balzert ... Finished the shortened spring season with a strong presence in doubles, winning a team-high eight matches ... Tied for a team-best 10 overall doubles wins, including an 8-4 record in duals and an overall 10-10 record ... went 2-8 in individual play with a 1-1 dual record.
2018-2019 (Freshman): Ecton played in all the matches for the Buffs, mostly in the No.6 singles position and No.3 doubles position. She had a 5-4 tournament singles record, finishing the overall season with a 12-18 singles record. She had the best doubles record on the team with 13-8, including 4-0 in tournaments. She and Farrow helped CU defeat No.28-ranked Washington State 4-3 with a 6-0 doubles victory.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ecton graduated from Poudre High School in 2018 and was a four-year letterwinner at No. 1 singles. She was named the Class 5A state player of the year as a junior and senior, winning the state championship at No. 1 singles both years. She was also a three-time all-state award winner and a four-time regional champion. As a senior, Ecton went 25-0 and became the 11th player in Colorado history to repeat as a No. 1 singles state champion. She also lettered in swimming, unified basketball, and cross country. Academically, she was in the top 10 percent of her class, an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program graduate, a three-year honor athlete, member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, and a 4.0 student.
IN THE CLASSROOM: Ecton plans on majoring in mechanical engineering and applied math. She would like to be a biomedical engineer and work with prosthetics after graduation.
PERSONAL: Ky Ecton was born on July 3, 2000, and is the daughter of Laura and Kraig Ecton. Her mother is a high school math teacher and her father is an attorney. Both of her parents graduated from Colorado College, where her mother played tennis and volleyball, and her father competed in track. She has three older sisters, Kwynn, Kayla and Koy. Kwynn played tennis at Lindfield College and at Colorado State. Kayl is currently a senior at CSU and Koy is a junior at CU. In her spare time, Ecton enjoys music, hiking, hanging out with her friends and family, and swimming. She has volunteered at Poudre Valley Hospital and in special needs classes as a tutor. She chose CU because she loves “the feel on campus and the ability to play tennis and have a top engineering school. It is also close to home, but not too close.” She had eight other offers to play Division I tennis.
