Colorado Drops Match to No.8 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The University of Colorado women's tennis team suffered a sweep against No.8-ranked UCLA this afternoon, falling to .500 overall this season.

Colorado (10-10, 3-4 Pac-12) picked up a single set win in the No.2 singles match against the Bruins (14-5, 6-1 Pac-12). Monica Malinen took the first set against Ayan Broomfield, but the match was clinched before the second set could begin.

UCLA began the match flexing its two doubles teams ranked in the top-12 in the nation. No.7-ranked Gabby Andrews and Ayan Broomfield swept No.35 Annabelle Andrinopoulos and Malinen 6-0 in the singles match to begin things. Megan Forster and Sara Nayar fell next with a 6-2 defeat against No.11 Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart in the No.2 doubles match to clinch the team point. Tallulah Farrow and Ky Ecton were down 5-2 when the point was decided against Taylor Johnson and Alaina Miller.

CU fell down 2-0 when Johnson defeated Ecton in the No.6 singles match with consecutive 6-1 sets. UCLA took a 3-0 lead after Miller defeated Forster 6-3, 6-1 in the No.4 singles match, and the dual was clinched with No.21-ranked Bolton defeating Nayar 6-2, 6-1.

Andrinopoulos had a close opening set with a 7-6(1) loss to No.98 Abi Altick in the No.3 singles match. Farrow dropped the first set to Andrews 6-3, but was in a 2-2 battle in the second when the match was decided.

Colorado returns home next weekend with a match against Cal on Friday at 1:30 p.m., then host senior day against Stanford Sunday at 10 a.m.
