VAIL, Colo.—Freshman Mikaela Tommy was named the Female Collegiate Skier of the Year by the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame, the association announced Tuesday.  The award is given to the top collegiate skier with a tie to the State of Colorado. Â
Tommy, a two-time first-team All-American by finishing in the top five in both the giant slalom (fourth) and slalom (third) races at the NCAA Championships, helped the Buffs to a third place team finish in her freshman season. Â She was first-team All-RMISA and the top GS qualifier out of the RMISA for the NCAA Championships. Â
She competed in 10 races collegiately for the Buffaloes and finished eight, with all eight coming in the top 10. Â She had six top five performances and four podium finishes to go along with three wins. Â She won the first three GS races of her career, becoming the first women's alpine skier in CU history to win the first three races in a single discipline in a career and the first women's skier at CU win win three straight giant slalom races. Â She won the team's Outstanding Women's Alpine Award and was named CU's Female Freshman of the Year across all sports. Â
She also participated in four World Cup races this past season, finishing three of those and all three finishers were the best three World Cup finishes of her career.  She took home 18th at Semmering, 19th at Courchevel, her first two top 20 performances, and was 26th at Killington.  After the conclusion of the collegiate season, she won two races and was runner up two more times, including one first and one second in North American Cup races at Stowe, enabling her to remain one of the top 35 ranked GS skiers in the world headed into next season. Â
Tommy was honored alongside Denver's Jett Seymour, who won the individual national championship in the slalom at the NCAA Championships. Â
Tommy is the 12th CU skier honored since the association started awarding it in 2009, and her honor is the 15th honor for a Colorado skier. Â She is the first women's alpine athlete honored since Erika Ghent in 2012 and those are the only two women's alpine skiers honored with the award. Â
