Buffs Spirit Squads Ready To Compete At National Championships
January 16, 2020 | Spirit
The Universal Cheerleading & Universal Dance Associations will be hosting the 2020 Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship starting this Friday, Jan. 17 until Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Â
The Buffs will have five different teams competing in four different categories this weekend, with the first event slated to start early Saturday morning (all times MT).
Â
Kicking things off will be the POM dance team who will compete at 6:25 am at the HP Field House.
Â
Next up will be the All Girl Cheer squad who will perform at 8:40 am in the South Arena. The All Girl team routinely places in the top-eight and they're determined to climb their way into the top-five this season as they prepare to face a highly competitive field.
Â
Following their performance will be the Coed Cheer team who is looking to earn its first-ever finals appearance in the division. Their performance is officially scheduled for 11:39 am in the South Arena.
Â
After that, the Jazz dance squad will perform in the HP Field House at 12:25 pm. The CU Dance Team has earned several top-10 finishes in recent years and they are eager to showcase their skills against an extremely competitive division.
Â
Wrapping up the days events will be the mascot competition where Chip The Buffalo will be competing at 2:35 pm. Chip has previously won two national titles (2009, 2010) and is currently ranked No. 2 in the mascot competition thanks to his video qualification that makes up 50 percent of his score (the other 50 percent is based upon his skit performance on Saturday).
Â
The competition will be nationally televised on ESPN and ESPN2 and is also available for live stream at https://tv.varsity.com/events. Additional competition information can also be found at https://www.varsity.com/uca/school/competitions/college-nationals/.
