CU held its annual awards banquet on Saturday
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's basketball team held its annual awards banquet on Saturday.
Six awards were handed out in all.
2019-20 Team Awards
Offensive MVP – Mya Hollingshed
Defensive MVP – Quinessa Caylao-Do
Most Improved Player- Jaylyn Sherrod
Ceal Barry Pride Award – Aubrey Knight
Crystal Ford Adams Scholar-Athlete – Jaylyn Sherrod
Lisa Van Goor Rebounding Award – Mya Hollingshed
Hollingshed voted the team's Offensive MVP by her teammates, leads the team with 13.5 points per game. She has led the team in scoring on seven occasions this season and has twice scored a season-high of 22 points. Hollingshed has posted three double-doubles this season, giving her eight in her career. She surpassed 800 career points this season, sitting at 844.
Hollingshed also took home the Lisa Van Good Rebounding Award. She currently leads the Buffs with 6.8 rebounds per game. She has matched her career-high of 12 rebounds three times this season.
Caylao-Do was voted the team's Defensive MVP by her teammates. The team's lone senior has recorded 27 steals thus far this season, giving her an even 100 for her career. She has seven blocks and 75 rebounds, including 41 on the defensive glass. Caylao-Do has snagged a season-high seven boards twice this season and has led the team in rebounding 10 times this season. Her 3.1 rebounds per game rank second-best in her four-year career.
Sherrod was recognized as the most improved player and the Crystal Ford Adams Scholar-Athlete. She has started 20 games this season, having come off the bench in the first six. Sherrod made waves in her first career game, handing out a season-high 11 assists. She recorded a double-double at Utah, scoring 19 points with 10 assists. She was the Pac-12's Freshman of the Week following CU's win against the Utes. Sherrod became the second-fastest Buff to reach 100 assists, doing so in her 18th career game. She currently is fifth on the freshman assists list with 138 this season.
Sherrod also excels in the classroom, boasting a 4.0 GPA.
Knight became a two-time winner of the Ceal Barry Pride Award. The award is given to the student-athlete that shows drive, puts in hard work and is unselfish both on and off the court. Knight has played in all 26 games this season, earning eight starts. She is averaging a career-high 7.1 points per game and is second on the team with 6.2 rebounds per game. Knight is in her first year back after suffering shoulder injuries in both her freshman and sophomore season. She also earned the award as a freshman in 2018.
The team also recognized the newest members of the Plate Club, the team's strength and conditioning achievements. New members to the club were Lesila Finau, Charlotte Whittaker, Peanut Tuitele, Kai Volcy, Raanee Smith, Annika Jank, Hollingshed and Sherrod.
The year's letterwinners were also gifted their official letters by the Alumni C Club.
