Buffs Move to Eighth At Pac-12 Preview

KAILUA KONA, Hawai'i – The Colorado women's golf team moved to eighth after a tough second round at the Pac-12 Preview on Tuesday as the Buffaloes shot a 16-over 308.

Stanford remained the team leader. The Cardinal shot a 1-under 291 in the second round and is currently 5-under through two rounds (579). Southern California shot an even round (292) which kept the Trojans at 2-under overall (582) as they stayed second overall. Arizona moved up four positions to third as the Wildcats shot a 4-under 288 and is currently 1-over (585). Those three teams were the only teams that carded an even or sub-par team score in the second round. Every other team was over-par in the round.

Colorado was tied for fifth after the first day with a 1-over 293 on the 6,449-yard, par 73 Nanea Golf Club. After the second round of play, CU's score is currently 601 (293-308). Washington is in seventh, just six strokes ahead of CU (595), while Oregon and UCLA are tied for fifth (594), seven strokes in front of the Buffs.

After a hard first round on Monday (80), Natalie Vo bounced back Tuesday with Colorado's best round, firing a 4-under 69 to tie the third-lowest 18-hole score on a par 73 in program history. Her 11-stroke improvement was propelled by five birdies and she made par 12 times. She had been tied for 80th and moved up into a tie for 17th (149).

Starting on the 10th tee, Vo recorded three birdies, made par five times and recorded her only bogey of the round on the back nine to finish 2-under (34) heading to the front nine. There she was 2-under (35), sinking her remaining two birdies and making par on the other seven holes.

"It was a rough day for our team with the exception of Natalie," head coach Anne Kelly said. "She played a fantastic round of golf and kudos to her for carrying her team today. She made a very nice comeback after a frustrating first round. She came out determined to improve and made a nice comeback today. Hopefully, the other team members will take her lead and make nice comebacks as well tomorrow."

Ellie Gower and Diane Baillieux are tied for 31st (151) following the second round. Gower shot a 79 with two birdies and made par 10 times. Baillieux had three birdies and made par 10 times, but two rough holes are what made the difference in her round as she finished her round 9-over (82). Â

Hailey Schalk recorded a 79 and is currently tied for 41st (154), while Malak Bouraeda scored an 81 and is tied for 49th (156),

USC's Katherine Muzi continues to lead the field. She had a one-stroke advantage after the first round and increased it to two strokes after the second round, firing a 71. She has a 7-under 139 heading into the final round. Brooke Seay (Stanford) and Danique Stokmans (Oregon State) are tied for second at 5-under.

The final round of the Pac-12 Preview begins at 7:30 a.m. local time (11:30 a.m. MT) on Wednesday, November 3. The Buffaloes are paired with Oregon, UCLA and Washington. Â

NOTES: Natalie Vo's 69 in the second round is her first round in the 60s at CU; it is also her second sub-par round this fall … CU has had seven rounds in the 60s this fall as well as 14 sub-par rounds.
