Maddox Kopp Added To Buffs Roster

December 21, 2021 | Football

BOULDER – Karl Dorrell Monday announced the addition of Maddox Kopp to the Colorado Buffaloes football team, a transfer quarterback who played his freshman season at the University of Houston in 2021. Ā

Kopp, 6-5, 210-pounds, has four years left to play four after not seeing action at Houston last season. Ā Originally from Houston, he prepped at St. Thomas Cathlolic High School. Ā He is the 22nd member of the Buffs 2022 signing class and first transfer into the class. Ā

"We need depth in our program," Dorrell said. "We went through the season last season with two scholarship quarterbacks and that's obviously something we had to fix. Ā We looked at Maddox early on in his recruitment a year ago and we liked his skill set. Ā When he became available, it was a good opportunity for us to add depth to the quarterback's room."Ā

Kopp was a Sports Illustrated All-American and Elite 11 finalist, throwing for 6,334 yard and 59 touchdowns in his career at St. Thomas, mostly in his junior and senior seasons. Ā His senior season, he completed 196-of-328 passes for 3,134 yards with 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions and added 42 rushes for 292 yards and one touchdown. Ā He had 10 300-yard games over his junior and senior seasons including a pair of games over 400 and one over 500 yards, which came against San Antonio Christian when he hit on 18-of-33 passes for 533 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception. Ā

The youngest of four brothers, Kopp comes from an athletic family as all four are college athletes. Ā His brother Braden is an offensive tackle at Vanderbilt while brothers Miller (Northwestern) and Anderson (Lamar) are college basketball players. Ā
