Buffaloes Competing At Iowa State and Mines
February 10, 2021 | Track and Field
BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field team competes in the Mines Front Range Meet #3 and the Iowa State Classic this Friday and Saturday.
Senior Sage Hurta will be the lone competitor heading to Iowa State where she is entered in the 800 and the mile. Hurta already owns the second-best 800 time in the nation at 2:02.54, ran virtually alone at the Razorback Invitational. She trails only Texas A&M freshman Athing Mu who ran 2:01.07 at the Ted Wilson Invitational at College Station.
The mile mark Hurta searches for is somewhere shy of 4:42, which would put her in the top 10 in the nation. Her personal best in the mile is 4:38.39, all the way back in 2017.
On the men's side, only the throwers, heptathlete Nick Bianco and high jumper Ryan Charles will be competing. Bianco is set to compete in the 60, 60 hurdles, pole vault and long jump. Lars Atkinson, Henry Carlson, Clayton Castro, Caleb Penner and Tyler Sconce are all set to compete in the throws.
The women have a much larger squad competing at Mines, with all the jumps, throws and 60 hurdles in competition. The pentathletes Avery McMullen, Elise Gillett, Kara Lucyk and Jada Green are all competing in the 60 hurdles, high jump and long jump. Green will also compete in the shot put.
Allie Routledge will join the multis in the jumps, while Kylee Harr will compete in the high jump. Cheyenne Cheshier and Sarah Aanenson are competing in both the horizontal jumps.
Bella Braun, Elena Opp, Obi Osafo-Mensah, Jane Powers, Gya'ni Sami and both Meghan and Lauren Whyrick make up the throws crew for the women.
The Iowa State Classic will be streamed on FloTrack.
