Buffs Battle In-State Rivals

February 24, 2021 | Tennis

BOULDER — Colorado women's tennis continues its tour of the state of Colorado Division I programs this weekend with a matchup at Air Force Friday at 5 p.m. and a match at CSU at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Buffs (5-2) are coming off a close 4-3 loss to Denver. Air Force upset CU last season at home in a 6-1 loss while CU holds a 35-0 record over the Rams all-time.

Sophomore Sophia Derivan and junior Sara Nayar both finally were defeated last weekend in doubles after winning their first five matches of the season. Derivan also picked up her first singles loss against Denver as she leads the team with a 6-1 singles record in the No.2 position.

Picking up a key point late against Denver was Megan Forster who is 6-1 this season as well, while Maria Campos is 5-1 after missing action in the BYU match. Both Nayar and Fleur Eggink are 5-2 while Antonia Balzert is 4-3. All the Buffs have a winning record in singles.

CU has struggled lately in the doubles matches outside of the No.1 team of Nayar and Derivan's 6-1 record. Campos and Forster are 3-4 in the No.3 doubles spot, while Fleur Eggink has a combined 2-5 record in the No.2 position with a pair of losses with Balzert and a 2-3 record with Ky Ecton.

These are the final two non-conference matchups before the Pac-12 season begins with No.12 Cal and Stanford, though the Buffs have non-conference matchups later in the conference schedule with UC Santa Barbara and New Mexico.
