Colorado Concludes Action At The Championships At The Peak

USAFA – Colorado track and field concluded action Saturday evening at the 2021 Championships at the Peak, hosted by the Air Force Academy.
 
The women placed 11th overall with 22 points scored, while the men placed 13th with 13 points. The largest point getter was sophomore multi Avery McMullen who scored 10 points for the women.
 
McMullen, who placed third in the pentathlon on Thursday, led the way picking up four more points today as she placed sixth in the 60 hurdle finals with a time of 8.63 seconds for three points. She also picked up a point in the high jump where she placed eighth with a jump of 1.70 meters (5-7).
 
Tamia Badal and Jada Green finished up in seventh and eighth in the hurdle finals as well in 8.65 and 8.84 seconds, giving the women three more team points. Green also contributed with a pair of points Thursday in the heptathlon along with freshman Kara Lucyk who added a point.
 
The women rounded out their scoring by placing third in the mile relay, with Jaida Drame, Valerie Welch, Badal and Sam Crosmer combining for a time of 3:53.25.
 
For the men, Aaron McCoy was the largest points getter after finishing fifth in the men's 400 finals in a time of 48.37.
 
Steve Fossi-Noue also picked up an individual point in the men's triple jump after finishing in eighth with a mark of 14.72 meters (48-3.50). The grad transfer enters the CU top-10 tied for eighth with Steve Joiner from 1988. He joined Caleb Penner in the weight throw and Nick Bianco in the heptathlon as the field event scorers for the men.
 
The CU quartet of Tyler Williams, Ian Gilmore, Kendal Smith and Garrett Nelson concluded the meet with a fourth-place finish in the mile relay in a time of 3:16.06.
 
Colorado will send just Sage Hurta to the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 12th and 13th  in both the mile and 800. McMullen was in 13th in the pentathlon following her performance Thursday but has since dropped to 20th in the nation following the conclusion of the BIG TEN, SEC and ACC Championships.
