Golfers Finish 12th At Wildcat Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. –The Colorado women's golf team finished 12^th overall on the final day of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational Tuesday.

Leading after the first two rounds, Texas, No. 40 by GolfStat, fired a 14-under round (274) to win the event with a 28-under 838. The Longhorns finished with a 25-stroke lead over the runner-up, Oklahoma State (861), which shot an even 288 in the final round.

The Buffaloes, ranked 35^th by GolfStat, recorded a 302 in the final round at the 6,627-yard, par-72 Sewailo Golf Club. CU finished the event with a 904, besting Northern Arizona (905), New Mexico State (907), Long Beach State (913) and Iowa (927). UNLV (903) edged the Buffs by one stroke to finish 11^th and Nebraska (902) placed 10^th with a two-stroke advantage on CU.

Junior Malak Bouraeda recorded the best finish for CU, tying for 39^th. She had her best round of the tournament during her final round, recording a 2-over 74. Bouraeda recorded a team-best four birdies on Tuesday in addition to making eight pars. Three of her birdies came on the front nine where she fired a 2-under 34. She finished the event with a 9-over 225.

Senior Kirsty Hodgkins closed with an even 72. She sank three birdies, which offset one bogey and one double-bogey. She was 2-under on the front nine, recording a pair of birdies and seven pars. Her total effort put her at a 12-over 228 for the event and tied her for 48th. This is her third even round this season as she has recorded one in every tournament this spring, and it is her 16^th overall.

Sophomore Ellie Gower finished third for CU. She tied for 53^rd after recording a 13-over 229, finishing with a 4-over 76 in the last round. She had a nice finish with three birdies and made nine pars. Unlike Bouraeda and Hodgkins, Gower's back nine was better than the front nine. She was 1-over on the back nine where she shot a 37 with two bogeys, one birdie and made six pars.

Junior Alisha Lau finished tied for 56^th. While she made nine pars and one birdie, she also had seven bogeys and one double to close with a 9-over 80. She shot a 7-over on the back nine, but was much more consistent on the front, shooting 1-over with a pair of bogeys and one birdie. Overall she recorded a 14-over 230.

"It was still a bit of a struggle for the team today," head coach Anne Kelly said. "Kirsty was better and after a rough start, Malak played better. Ellie was more consistent as well."

Texas' Sara Kouskova took home medalist honors. She shot a 4-under in the final round to move up from second to first after the first two rounds, finishing with a three-stroke lead at 10-under (206). Agathe Laisna (Texas) and Hsin-Yu Lu (Oregon) tied for second as both finished at 7-under (209).

Colorado will have a quick turnaround as the next tournament, the Clover Cup, is March 12-14, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
