March 30, 2022 | Skiing
BOULDER—A total of 14 Colorado Buffaloes Ski Team members were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team, announced Wednesday by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association. Â
The list includes the Buffs first five-time winner in Joey Young. Â Young returned to CU for his fifth season due to the 2020 season not counting toward a year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Â In 2021, Young became the 14th skier to win the award four times. Â
Of the other 13 CU honorees, 10 earned the award for the second time and three first-year skiers picked up the honor. Â Anna-Maria Dietze, Louis Fausa, Katie Fleckenstein, Emma Hammergaard, Kaitlyn Harsch, Oyvind Haugan, Ryan Jackson, Will Koch, Bobby Ryan and Chase Seymour all won for the second time. Â Dietze won in both 2020 and now in 2022 while the other nine earned the award for the second straight season. Â
Three newcomers, Cleo Braun, Jacob Dilling and Magdalena Luczak, picked up their first career honor. Â
To qualify, skiers must maintain above a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and either compete at the NCAA West Regional Championships or have a compelling reason why they missed the championship such as injury, illness or competing in a world-level event. Â
The 14 Buffs are tied for the second-most All-Academic honors in a season for CU dating back to 2002. Â The 2013 team also had 14 and last year's 2021 squad had 15 members honored. Â
